I recently purchased two guns .... Smith & Wesson M&P's. A 9mm and a .22 LR and went all over town looking for ammo. Couldn't find any for either gun. Scary.

This was in Tucson ... I don't like purchasing guns or ammo in CA, but I guess I'm going to be on the lookout here as well.

Had to go to a couple of different stores before I found either of these guns. The 9mm will stay in AZ because CA won't allow it, 17+1 capacity.

The .22 was 12+1 but I swapped it out for a 10+1 so I can bring to CA.

However, neither is doing me any good because I have no ammo for either. :bang3:

Haven't checked on CA regulations regarding buying ammo online. Are you aware of any restrictions?

Nevermind, I won't be buying 9mm while in CA.

Didn't see that they sell .22lr.

SL ( 9mm ammo is hard to come by because it is so popular , at the last gun show I picked up a couple of boxes at $26.00 a box for my Dad (who couldn't find any ammo in SC or Fl ) well the local gun shop I deal with has it now for like $ 18.00 a box and they have a pretty good supply but it is still scarce , you might want to ( if you haven't purchased the gun yet ) think about a 40 caliber it is just a bit more powerful but I can buy that ammo all day long because it just isn't as popular of a caliber as the 9, at least here in the S.E. that is the case , ammo is starting to get back in the stores but people are buying it up still pretty quick but according to the local shop it is starting to ease up ( either people have stocked enough ammo or the original scare after Obama lowered the boom is wearing off) just a suggestion that I thought may help

Already have the guns. Doesn't mean I won't get another one at some point. So far I'm only buying the ones that I've practiced with at the gun range. I'll have to try the 40 to see if I can handle it. My original purchase was a .38 and it's just not practical for practicing.

Thanks for the tip.

Ruger makes a 40 ( SR40 ) that is very comfortable to shoot , my wife has vertebra's bad in her neck that cause her severs pain in her arms and hands and of course neck and shoulders but she loved to shoot that gun it was just heavy enough to have little kick but light enough not to get tired of holding it while at the range , she would rather shoot that then the 9 or 380 I thought she would prefer

Hope none of you mind a tiny bit of advice here.

Namely. If you are gonna talk weapons, and ammo.

The INTERNET "IS NOT" the best place to do so.

No explanation is required, other than to remember these 3 letters "N.S.A". Or...."I.R.S.".

Not a joke.

Sassy. I agree 100% with you. I feel the same way. It was just a warning, not a threat to you in any way.

I deal in reality, and being pragmatic. Why help those who are trying to take our Rights away by advertising our strengths?

That's all I was saying.

Way to go!!! That's the kind of talk I like to hear! I agree and feel that big sis/bro has lumped all of us in together anyway just for being on a talk site or expressing Conservative views while on a talk site so I say....SCREW 'EM!!! You hear that B.O., Holder and the rest of you bunch of you bottom feeding scum suckers!!!

Now, to get back on topic....Sassy, the problem I've actually found was quite a shady one. Our church has a MEN's OUTING every May and we were all talking about that very thing because we shoot all sorts of shotguns, sidearms, rifles and airguns during our annual fellowship and prices have actually put a hurt on our hobby. What one guy actually discovered after repeatedly trying to purchase ammo is that our local Walmart was dealing with a guy who operates a booth at the local flea market and was scheduling his visit with the Walmart shipment. This is shady because the clerk or even the manager was orchestrating this "timely" transaction. How my church member found out is that he asked when the next shipment was to arrive and showed up EARLY that morning. When he came to ask about whatever cal. he needed, the clerk told him that they were all sold out. He then played it cool, went to another area while shopping for something else YET in an area so that he could keep an eye on anyone coming into the outdoor section so early in the morning. Sure enough, a guy came in and that's when the church member moved in. He should have made a scene but was simply glad to get a few boxes of ammo. This is just one example of the shortage and the KraZy dealings you run into when you have crooks from the high places of our Nations all the way down to a lil' ole country Walmart.

I've loaded quite a lot of ammo over the years and with my dad being a loader and avid shooter, he also made up more rounds than I could ever possibly use so I don't need any for my hunting rifles. Another reason I'll probably never run out and will never have to go out buying ammo is because I haven't hunted with a gun in over 6 years (except for my turkey shotgun). I'd advise you to get to your store early after you've confirmed when they get a new shipment. My point in mentioning my lack of hunting with a gun is to emphasize that I haven't used my guns as much lately and that is one of the key elements to getting the prices down. It is especially a deterrent to the shady dealings going on everywhere. When something is banned or pushed almost out of existence or ease of acquiring ...the sorry, greedy son-of-a-guns or crooks in the black market always do well in shortages or bans. We don't.

In closing, and this is strictly a suggesting to cut costs: You could try using an air weapon. Air rifles lack the kick of a real gun but 22's have virtually no kick also. Many air weapons have the look and feel of a real weapon so it may be cost effective and good practice to simply use an air rifle or air pistol if you plan to do a great deal of shooting. You can use the REAL THING intermittently when shooting and it could create an ability to change up on different firearms without learning to shoot one particular way with only one or two particular weapons. I'd suggest trying short range draw tactics with the air pistol and even one shot scenarios at close range as well as fairly long shots with your air rifle from a standing, unsupported position for most of your shooting. If you don't use a cylinder much....you'll have virtually no cost for hundreds of rounds. One would be surprised at how effective airguns are for practicing...not to mention archery and you can re-shoot archery amo. HA!!! I know it can NEVER compare to preparing for the REAL thing with the preferred weapon but it does cut down on costs....and could even improve shooting in many ways that was never thought possible. This lil' tid-bit is a bit off topic but you could even try self defensive moves with a paint gun by having someone (with proper protection) trying to take your weapon (as with a George/Travon situation. Just a thought since my buddy is a civilian trainer for our local law enforcement. He teaches all forms of martial art as well as hand to hand tactics in preventing another to gain control of your weapon. I believe all such areas are important these days (ESPECIALLY IF ONE IS AN AVID SHOOTER AND/OR SIMPLY LOVES TO TRAIN).

You know what....I just remembered. I lost all of my guns and amo to big rain a few years ago. Yep, silly me, I forgot and left EVERYTHING out in the rain and what didn't wash away had to be tossed. How's that ABOUT TIME? HA!!!!

No need to not use all forms of communication because they monitor all of it anyways. Pardon me now, a short note to those very special sons a bitches.. Me, being the dumb old guy I am. Always remember the famous words of the Lone Ranger's partner...Tonto.
When the Lone Ranger saw he, and Tonto were surrounded by American Indians. The Lone Ranger said:

Sassy...you need to move to a RED STATE or a RED NATION.....instead of "surviving" in a PINKO COMMIE part of the world. HA!!!! The Cherokee Nation would be a great move and not all that far of a drive (Oklahoma)....or, with a longer drive yet more beautiful landscape (the Cherokee hunting grounds of the GREAT Smoky Mountains). Just saying....

This is free of charge info but my wife and I were headed to the mountains in August for our 23th Anniversary BUT I'm tempted to head to Oklahoma for the 61st Cherokee National Holiday.
It is August 30 - September 2, 2013. Our Anniversary is the 23rd and our son's 20th birthday is the second. We normally go to St. Augustine during August but due to ammo shortage, stupid gun laws and the "stuff" going on in FL right now, we truly didn't feel like taking our annual summer vacation or Spring break in FL during 2012 or 13. Besides, the house we book was in a nice neighborhood but we'll NEVER go during the 4th of July ever again (as we did in 2011). I was really creeped out because a high number of muSLUMS were there during that time and I couldn't help but let my better judgement kick in.

I bet there's no shortage of ammo in the Cherokee Nation or Oklahoma for that matter...cuz they still honor their Executive & Judicial branches as equal branches. Atlhough the Constitution of the Cherokee Nation is subject to and pretty much the same as the US Constitution, Cherokee may actually preserve what the US founders intended as a firm foundation for ALL whereas those in the White House is dismantling the US Constitution. We NO TRUST the great white father any longer. Partly cuz the guy we now have iin the White House isn't great by any standard and according to the media as well as from the @$$E$ mouth....not white at all. Ironically, B.O. has been asked for a REAL birth certivicate and Bill John Baker has been asked for certificate of blood line. I believe he is 1/8th Cherokee. Note how the president above rides freely and without protection or a "BEAST" to drive in as B.O. does. Do you think a guy would get far if he were to shoot the Cherokee President in front of all those wonderfully wise and ARMED citizens?! HA! And he's not even a terribly popular president among many of the "true bloods".

Man knows how to pick 'em.. She is a real beauty. Sure we favor a bit, likely same bloodline. My Native American bloodline is a combination of Cherokee/Choctaw.. with English, Irish/Scottish, German , Viking thrown in as well. My wife is not blonde instead she has that beautiful jet black Pacific Islander hair, petite and even prettier IMHO. Myself, I only have the higher cheekbones as far as looking Native American goes but my grandfather made damn sure I had the Spirit. He and dad instilled in me the "never say die spirit" and "fight until the death" attitude. Which as we both know is indeed a blessing and a curse... Sassy would do well to move to a better location . One where the locals not only have guns but have grown up shooting those guns and believe in the 2nd Amendment ! All things being complex I'm sure she has other considerations to ponder but a move to a better location is my wish for her. -Tyr

Sound wisdom, Tyr....I just hope we don't get more and more "NUTS" from the left who are seeking refuge while continuing to practice the same politics within their NEW HOME of new found FREEDOM that caused them to flee in the first place. It is happening (both unintentionally and with vicious intention). THEY will move and push all who support freedom (TRUE FREEDOM) until they have bullied us into a corner where only one HONORABLE outcome will take place. Our space seems to be diminishing along with our freedoms. In that regard, we know exactly how our Native American brothers and sisters felt/feel and why many of them fought the Feds during the war between the States. I try to never call it the Civil War but am glad we survived this great war....but our survival was at a cost.

Sassy, you'd do well to move yourself and your family to any free, RED State....preferably the Southern States and Jeff has indeed a good change of scenery in mind. I wish us both a safe trip to either Oklahoma or the Mountains of TN. Jeff, fyi, my favorite spot is between Gatlinburg and Cosby (just east of the Pittman area). In fact, my wife and I almost considered buying another vacation home but they were asking too much. I believe it may have sold now. Just within the past 5 years, any of us could have gotten some REAL steals but now the economy/real estate is rebounding. The property is below:

As you can see, we take our hunting seriously so I hope you don't mind my posting these photos and gabbing. Who knows, I may persuade some of our politically afflicted brothers and sisters (such as Sassy) to come join us in FREEDOM.

We prefer cabins but this delightful spot has the Little Pigeon River at its mail box, has beautiful pasture land (with neighbor who is into horses) so it has a gorgeous view of grazing horses, the mountains up close and personal and a beautiful park leading along the river and to the mountains just across the main road (perhaps a 10 min walk).

Just too much and too much work to do to it so we're looking at a few cabins that are around 25 - 30 years old (I wouldn't buy anything built after the 80's) it is simply JUNK thrown together. I"ve always prided myself in DEALS and that is all I'll consider is a fair deal. Land is GOLD and I suggest anyone invest hunt for property. Now if we can only reverse the land tax and other tyranical unConstitutional laws and idiots ruling over us, we'd feel more comfortable in "investing". That political rant/TRUTH was free of charge to anyone listening. HA!!!

It looks as though someone may have talked them down considerably because it is no longer for sale and has a listing for $150.000.oo (almost half of what they were asking when we were interested back in Feb).

Nice, but in the end, not for us....I plan to move to the mountains and/or retire there but I fear this place may see a crowding before long and I prefer the higher ground with a property that doesn't require as much work as I assume this one will need.

Sassy, the property below is another property we considered due to a GREAT price but after staying there during Valentines for four days, we decided that it also had too much work to be done and that it was not the type of traditional cabin with an abundance of luxury that we've come to expect from cabins over the years. It did have great views and we enjoyed our trip but it could have been better.....anyone who knows, the photos do NOT do the Smoky's justice. No photograph can because we were right at the mountains but you'd never know that from the photos. It was an unusual OCTAGONAL cabin....one of two that the resort area has to offer (Bear Den & Carousel).

And YES the [Bear Den] cabin does have bears in the area (which is why I OPENLY carry at ALL times while in the mountains). This is especially true for Spring time. I love Winter/early Spring, early Fall and late Fall because of the colors of the foliage + the surprise of snow. In that regard LATE Fall is my favorite time because most folks leave by the time the leaves start to brown or then and before the snow comes. As you can see, a snow capped mountain is just as beautiful as a fiery one with all sorts of color. Get there a week before Thanksgiving and you have a PERFECT view with much variety. We try to stay till after Thanksgiving before heading back home.

Sorry to have bored anyone....just thought it'd be a break from the main topic of the thread (while addressing the sub-topic that has come up. Still, it is a great place to dig in without having to have a lot of ammo. The crime level is low and, as we've seen with the Afgan mountain folks (as well as the people of TN/NC who refused to have tyranny force them to leave) it's a pretty darn good spot to "stand your ground". Plenty of fish & game, plenty of cool, clear drinking water and inclines that would virtually destroy those who are not accustomed to such terrain. US forces do train in the mountains and harvest wild hog but these are usually good ole boys who'd probably side with us. OK....if that isn't nutty enough for those SPYING on our conversation.....stay tuned....I've got more. HA!!!!

Anyone who wishes to see the publicly available photos and such that seem to have had some sort of error in their coding, and are now broken links, need to PM me and I'll be glad to forward them ALL again.
