The Chappaquiddick incident occurred on July 18, 1969, in which Mary Jo Kopechne, a female passenger of U.S. Senator Edward M. "Ted" Kennedy, was killed when he accidentally drove his car off a bridge and into a tidal channel on Chappaquiddick Island, Massachusetts. Kennedy swam free and left the scene, not reporting the accident for nine hours, but Kopechne died in the vehicle. In the early hours of July 19, Kopechne's body and the car were recovered. Kennedy pleaded guilty to a charge of leaving the scene of an accident after causing injury and received a two-month suspended jail sentence. The incident became a national scandal, and may have influenced Kennedy's decision not to campaign for President of the United States in 1972 and 1976.

That is also the day when Teddy decided to open the "Underwater Towing & Girlfriend Rescue Team for Chappaquiddick".

Well actually he wouldn't be because he'd still be a dead SOB from his alcoholism. Too bad his disease took so long to do a good deed. -Tyr

come on guys..... really? Chappaquidick? I DISAGREE! He was a public and historic figure. As such discussing his actions is appropriate. No different that discussing JFK,FDR , Carter, or either Bush. Let's NOT BE A PART OF THE HIDE THE TRUTH CROWD. Why should that drunken self-serving bastard be shielded from criticisms? After all much of the dire condition this nation is in now was his handiwork. You do remember that he was a socialist dem don't you? As an historic public figure he and his career deserve scrutiny. The fact that so much of his life is a shameful display of gluttony, alcoholism and sexual deviance should be talked about because the ffing dems hail the bastard as a great and compassionate hero ! The more truth put out for others to read the better my friend. Let us not hide the TRUTH in some kind of sentimental display of erroneous compassion.. How about we save our compassion for deserving souls and not a slimy bastard like Ted Kennedy? -Tyr
