<!-- google_ad_section_start --> In a legacy-defining gamble, President Barack Obama announced Saturday that he has decided to launch military strikes against Syria -- but wants the Congress to authorize them.
“In a world with many dangers, this menace must be confronted,” Obama declared in the Rose Garden 10 days after Bashar Assad’s forces allegedly massacred 1,400 civilians with chemical weapons.
“After careful deliberation, I have decided that the United States should take military action against Syrian regime targets,” he said, describing himself as “prepared to give that order.”
The president’s hastily arranged remarks – demonstrators protesting outside the White House gates could be heard from the West Wing just minutes before he spoke – sucked the urgency out of what had looked like a imminent military strike.
Instead, cruise missile-carrying warships off Syria’s coast will have to wait until the week of Sept. 9. That’s when Congress returns from a month-long vacation to take up a measure, drafted by the White House, giving Obama the green-light.
“I’m the president of the world’s oldest constitutional democracy," Obama said. "I will seek authorization for the use of force from the American people's representatives in Congress."
The president ignored a reporter who shouted the obvious question: What happens if Congress says no?
But senior administration officials briefing reporters at the White House later said that Obama still believes he has the legal authority to act without congressional support – meaning that a “no” vote would not necessarily handcuff his foreign policy. And they disputed that Obama risked setting a precedent that could limit the power of future occupants of the Oval Office.-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------So, he asks for permission but reserves the right to do it anyway if permission is refused!!! Can anybody now declare this guy isn't a power mad egomaniac?? The announced right to do it anyway was a veiled threat to dems that might vote no. Telling them in advance that they'll put him in hot water to no avail (but may give his opponents justification for impeachment). So don't do it! -This son of a bitch is a real piece of work. Surely attempting to fully establish a dictatorship in place of the Presidency!--Tyr

He's setting up congress for blame in case things go bad. He must have someone to point a finger at. And now he and Biden are off to the golf course.

He's not asking them to return early, thus we'll wait until after 9/10 to find what Congress 'thinks' at some point after.

Gaffer. Obama is just playing the typical, liberal, democrat game of "CYA". He hasn't got the courage to actually accept any responsibility for his own actions. Actions he, and his White House staff instantly complained about in LEAKING details to the World of a military, SNOWDEN like adventure designed to regain his HALO of Power once again...as he did for SINGLE-HANDEDLY taking out OBL with the help of SEAL TEAM SIX.

He was probably told he'd get burned if he didn't consult with Congress. So now. Like everything else he fails to do as a leader...he is waiting until CONGRESS comes back from their Recess on September 9th. Plenty of time for ASSAD and his troops to gather all of the IRANIAN weapons needed to launch over Israel...and he will blame CONGRESS for taking so long while Obama goes to play a few more rounds of MINIATURE GOLF.

It is the pinnacle of hypocrisy and ignorance to watch Obama and his brain dead minions desperately assert that some action must occur on Syria because the Cheif Admonisher stuck his foot in his mouth again with the bluster and puffery of a buffoon.

The man who argued that we had no business invading Iraq, where we did, now wishes to argue that because Syria's leadership gasses civilians, the US must hurl a few cruise missiles from a safe distance to show Assad that he just cannot do such things.

The brain dead minions who parrot Obamas moronic rhetoric are now desperately seeking a way to blame Republicans if they do not support Obamas poor case of interventionism and brand them again as racists because they supported war in Afghanistan and Iraq. But there is a vast gulf of difference between the Syrian case and Afghanistan and Iraq. But low information voters are too dense and dumb to even begin comprehending the difference.

How can they be to blame if they tell him it Syria has nothing to do with our national security and is no threat to us so they vote 'No'? Which is exactly what should happen.

The media can and will blame them if they vote no and dare to refuse the Dictator... . I'll bet you a Snickers bar on it.... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Remember , Obama already told them, I am asking but I don't need your approval.. Which to me shows he gave himself an out if they say no. And he telegraphed that deliberately to try to convince any dems that would vote no to not force him to just do it anyways. He knows 2014 elections are close and they'll weigh that all the more after receiving his warning. Tyr

Arbo. It's all an Obama-Democrat, partisan political tactic they use to distract any blame from them, to any members of Congress.

Obama is a WUSS. Has no courage. A Coward, and LIAR.

No other explanation is needed as long as Americans know the truth about him.
