</figure>Electric Zoo Canceled After Two Deaths During Concert. The final day of Electric Zoo has been canceled after two fans died during the electronic music festival. The New York Post (http://www.nypost.com/p/news/local/electic_zoo_cancelled_after_two_Q3ElELh0TgtoFEklFf 3fQM) reports that four others were hospitalized over the first two days of the festival, and that police believe the incidents to be connected to the drug MDMA.

"During the first two days of the Electric Zoo music festival, two concert-goers have died and at least four others became critically ill and have been placed in intensive care at area hospitals," said a statement from New York City officials (http://www.nyc.gov/portal/site/nycgov/menuitem.c0935b9a57bb4ef3daf2f1c701c789a0/index.jsp?pageID=mayor_press_release&catID=1194&doc_name=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nyc.gov%2Fhtml%2Fom%2Fht ml%2F2013b%2Fpr289-13.html&cc=unused1978&rc=1194&ndi=1). "Definitive causes of death have not yet been determined, however, both appear to have involved the drug MDMA (ecstasy, or molly). The Electric Zoo organizers have worked with City officials to reduce health risks at this event, but in view of these occurrences, the safest course is to cancel the remaining day of the event." ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------REMINDS ME OF THE 1976 Bicentennial concert in Memphis TN. I was there with my new girlfriend , Tammy Jones, she was as hot as a three dollar pistol . I do not embellish any at all when swearing that gal could have posed for playboy but we only lasted about 5 months because I couldn't take her actions and hard drug use. I was a stickler to how people could act around me. Anyways, the bands cranked up at 4pm and didn't stop until after midnight. I forget at what time in the concert but the band stopped to announce about somebody passing around a milk jug with mushroom juice in it that also had some kind of poison in it too. The lead singer stated, so if you don't know the person and know its safe don't drink from any milk jug its could be poison. We had just came away from talking to her ex-boyfriend a drug fool and badass that later was convicted for killing two of his associates over some drug crap-I know his name was Gene but think his last name was Tiller, but not sure. A little test she put me thru to see if I'd face him as his reputation in Memphis at the time was well known. He quickly sized me up and showed nothing but the highest respect for me. Had it not been so the fight would have been on despite me being without any backup and he had his usual 8 or 9 guys as a posse. After we left the group , she stated , damn , I could tell he was afraid of you. I asked how and she said, I've never seen him act so damn humble --not to anybody !!!! I was sure he'd smart some shit off to you and the fight would be on. He had even told my friend Leanne(sp) that if he ever met you he'd beat you to death. He was talking to you like a long lost friend and brother. A year later one of the two he tortured and killed was his own cousin! Some one was moving around the football field tempting people to drink something out of a plastic milk jug that looked like gater aide and me and my two friends turned him down. About a half hour later, someone got on a live mike and warned everyone that the guy had something poison in his jug and that several people had been taken to the hospital.
Several auxiliary Memphis police tried to make a drug bust on some guy on the field and handcuffed him. When they stood up with the guy in handcuffs, 60,000 people there for the concert, stood up with them and began to move in on the police officers. Thousands of people began to throw thousands of paper and stirofoam cups at the two cops. Seeing that they had made a stupid mistake and were greatly out numbered, could not get the handcuff keys out fast enough to release the guy. Then the officers were booed as they made their way out of the football field. Regular cops were laughing at the rookies mistakes. When Lynard Skynard took the stage, joints came flying up on stage and they picked them up and smoked them. They played free bird 2 times and partied down with everyone there. Does any one else remember?

I remember them trying to arrest someone on the field, think on the west side.

I also remember after all the great concerts in the Stadium, there was a problem on the football field the next year with all these weeds that were growing everywhere on the natural turf. They had a lot of trouble with it. Seems like one of the reasons they stopped the concerts there for years.

A Whole Lot of Texas in Memphis
ZZ Top headlined the bill that day and were preceded by Lynyrd Skynyrd, Blue Oyster Cult & the Outlaws. I was down on the field around the 50 yard line for most of the day but moved closed for Skynyrd and the ZZ Top. Took the roadies a long time to set ZZ's stage as they played on a Texas shaped stage and brought out a Buffalo, a rattlesnake, a coyote and about anything else you could find that was a part of Texas! Peformance was incredible and so unique for it's time. We were still big on the Fandango album and they played plenty from it as well as newer stuff from Tejas.

In regard to some questions/memories of those who posted about this show, I can guarantee you the following: Marshall Tucker was not a part of this show and Skynyrd did not play Freebird twice. Actually the cups that were being thrown onto the field were plastic cups than had a picture of the libery bowl stadium on one side and a picture of the Mid South Coliseum on the other. I still have my cup from that day so there you go!
