This is too funny , guess they picked the wrong group to protest

Johnstown, PA (GlossyNews) – Local and state police scoured the hills outside rural Johnstown, Pennsylvania, after reports of three animal rights activists going missing after attempting to protest the wearing of leather at a large motorcycle gang rally this weekend. Two others, previously reported missing, were discovered by fast food workers “duct taped inside fast food restaurant dumpsters,” according to police officials.
“Something just went wrong,” said a still visibly shaken organizer of the protest. “Something just went horribly, horribly, wrong.”
The organizer said a group of concerned animal rights activists, “growing tired of throwing fake blood and shouting profanities at older women wearing leather or fur coats,” decided to protest the annual motorcycle club event “in a hope to show them our outrage at their wanton use of leather in their clothing and motor bike seats.”

As hilariously funny, and long overdue, as that would be, alas, it is not real...

Many readers who encountered this tale out of its original context via e-mail forwards and web site repostings did take it at face value, but it was nothing but a bit of satire which was published on The Spoof! (http://www.thespoof.com/news/spoof.cfm?headline=s2i66233) web site on 3 January 2010 and (in slightly different form) on the Glossy News (http://glossynews.com/society/201001070305/activists-missing-after-declaring-war-on-leather-at-motorcycle-rally/) web site four days later. (The former site included a disclaimer noting that "The story above is a satire or parody. It is entirely fictitious," while the latter site describes (http://glossynews.com/about/) itself as "an accredited online satirical publication.")

The spoof spread so widely that the local newspaper (http://www.tribune-democrat.com/editorials/local_story_022103710.html) in the town where the fictitious story was set, the Johnstown [Pennsylvania] [I]Tribune-Democrat, received numerous inquiries asking why it hadn't covered the incident:

Our newsroom has received dozens of inquiries about the story.

"Aren't you going to look into this?" one caller asked.

Another accused us of hiding the truth to protect the rally.

Lisa Rager, executive director of the Greater Johnstown/Cambria County Convention and Visitors Bureau, which plans and organizes the [annual "Thunder in the Valley (http://www.pennsylvania-mountains-of-attractions.com/johnstown.html)" motorcycle] rally, said this was not the first tall Thunder tale she'd heard.

"Believe me, we've heard many different rumors," she said. "But I have to say, this is probably the most interesting one." <!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> <w:LatentStyles DefLockedState="false" DefUnhideWhenUsed="true" DefSemiHidden="true" DefQFormat="false" I was aiming at sarcasm. I despise PETA and their pitiful efforts. I wouldn't cross the street to spit on one if he was on fire. The commentary was aimed at pointing out exactly what you did, that their normal target is a person who is inhibited in defending themselves. I would LOVE to see PETA protesters and some badass bikers having a <cough> discussion.

W.L. Funny thing is. There would never be such a discussion with any PETA members, or protesters. We live near the Headquarters of PETA, and from what I've seen, and heard. Most of the Dead meat, and Furs they claim to be protecting....HAVE MORE BRAINS than any of them.
PETA tried to prevent local fishermen, women, and children from CATCHING fish, and crabs from a pier near here. The PETA jerks....Lost.

Bikers or bikies? Most people would have called the police and reported being assaulted by the protesters. Do they have disturbing the peace laws in the US?

log. Gotta break it to ya gently, but..you may not be aware how SNOPES has been proven to NOT ALWAYS BE QUITE HONEST, and they are backed by groups like the DNC, and Moveon. For starters. So. If anyone is still depending on SNOPES as a source of Honest Facts.
You might as well just apply to Debbie Wasserman Schultz, asking for TRUTH from Obama.

Considering all you spouting of TRUTH-- how about you back up that assertion. Show me a more reputable me source showing that the OP is true and snopes is being dishonest.

Nope. The mere fact you so instantly disagreed with what I honestly told you. Ended it.
You wouldn't accept anything I presented to you anyhow.
Your attitude tells me you would rather call me a liar, than accept what I said at face value.
So. You are not important enough to me to try and prove anything to you.

Whether worshiping animals like PETA or the Earth with environmentalism, both are idolatry and against the FIRST Commandment. Both groups bring God's judgement and wrath.

Personally I think it is funny as hell, is it illegal to own a leather coat , NO so until it becomes illegal PETA ought to mind there own business

As for Muslim being responsible your right but see I was taught as a kid if ya look for trouble you may find it , if a Muslim group abducts someone for no other reason that there religion your right I would be mad but if they taped a guy up that was trying to disturb there church time then in all reality no big deal but it doesn't work that way does it, see no one got there head cut off or anything like that so there is a big difference .

AS for snopes yes I have seen them wrong but for the most part they are usually right so I wouldn't take on the argument , but in the same token I don't have the time to check each post made on this board  I wonder if any others are not true according to snopes or are my post the only ones checked ? Well check away ( honestly I pulled that off of FB) so I didn't hold much in the truth department anyway but still thought it was funny as hell so I posted it.

Personally I think it is funny as hell, is it illegal to own a leather coat , NO so until it becomes illegal PETA ought to mind there own business

I don't accept any source as the end all; my first clue that something was amiss was the OP link being down, so I googled it and snopes was the first hit. So unless google is in on the conspiracy, I'm leaning towards accepting Snopes' finding of false. I had wanted to check and see if the PETA people had assaulted the bikers first-- throwing blood, spray painting their leathers or whatnot. That changes things in my opinion-- thats my standard and it universal. Whether they threw blood or came at them with swords doesn't matter to me-- Its who instigated the situation by committing a crime. No matter though, nothing happened.

Nope. The mere fact you so instantly disagreed with what I honestly told you. Ended it.
You wouldn't accept anything I presented to you anyhow.
Your attitude tells me you would rather call me a liar, than accept what I said at face value.
So. You are not important enough to me to try and prove anything to you.
Right. That's why you don't answer my challenge. It has nothing do with the fact the OP is false.

My attitude indicated nothing but my doubts on the veracity of your claim-- I didn't deny what you said, nor disagree with you-- I expressed doubt. I mean, you think I should accept what you say when you're entire point was that I shouldn't accept another source's credibility. The only thing left to ponder is whether that's more flush with irony or hypocrisy.

Furthermore, I gave you a chance to back up what you said, implying that there maybe some truth to it. You declined; so your credibility is hardly something I should take stock in. At least snopes provides sources.

Your excuse is that I wouldn't believe you anyways, but that didn't keep you from responding to me in the first place. Time and time again i entertain your idiosyncrasies in hopes you might actual argue a point with the slightest modicum of form, and yet again you've failed.

I've been through this so many times with you. Next up is transference, where Eventually you get to the point that even you can't deny the idiocy of ramblings and you'll say you're imitating me and tell me I just want the last word. I guess that's better than having you post poo pics like you do others with whom you disagree. Imitation is the highest form of flattery, even when you fail at it so stupendously.

By the way, I didn't say, nor did I imply that you were a liar, because you might actually believe what you said-- then again, maybe not, and what you sense as my attitude is actually your conscience.

Regardless, with no proof to affirmative, the OP is fictitious.

Now let's see if you can give me the last word, not respond to this and prove me mistaken about that being your transferring your own self upon me.

Well hey, its the current EVENTS forum in the politics arena-- you can bet I'm gonna look at it from a legal perspective. Perhaps it would be more apropos to post something that is fictitious yet amusing in the chat\humor forum. but hey, I aint mad atcha, but no get outta debate free pass either. ;)
