The National Park Service has ordered the closure of a Virginia park that sits on federal land, even though the government provides no resources for its maintenance or operation.

The Claude Moore Colonial Farm announced on Wednesday that NPS has ordered it to suspend operations until Congress agrees to a deal to fund the federal government.

According to Anna Eberly, managing director of the farm, NPS sent law enforcement agents to the park on Tuesday evening to remove staff and volunteers from the property.

“You do have to wonder about the wisdom of an organization that would use staff they don’t have the money to pay to evict visitors from a park site that operates without costing them any money,” she said.

Government overreach, would actually like to see this go to court to smack down the fed's as they yet again overstep their bound.

Just proves that this government is not above spending money it does not have in the name of an ideology. I do not believe most citizens realize just how much money this shutdown is going to cost the taxpayer.

I agree. Most wouldn't understand this either:

They tried to close Mt. Vernon as well. Oh, it's privately owned. Again spending MORE money to inconvenience the public. I wish the major media outlets would call him on this, for a change.

Don't hold your breathe waiting for MSNBC to come to the rescue.

This president is more concerned with political posturing than he is about the people.

Anything he can do to make republicans look heartless.

Even if it is closing monuments and state parks that WEREN'T CLOSED DURING OTHER SHUT DOWNS.

At this point it's costing MORE to shut them down, than to leave them open.

I think that one has to be my favorite so far. You have a privately operated tavern that rents/leases the building from the NPS. Rather than letting the business continue to operate, and thus provide the NPS with revenue, they shut it down because, hey, the government is shut down. I wish the IRS would do that.

A large part of this state is 'federal park'. Good luck to law enforcement in heading out there and removing the thousands of hunters currently on that land. ;)

I had a long drive yesterday, saw a lot of the little 'federal' pull off places with barricades. Saw people on the other side of them fishing anyway. Power to the people!

I offered to reopen the Grand Canyon to visitors by using state money, but federal officials declined my offer. I really shouldn't be surprised that the Obama Administration doesn't want Arizona's help. LIKE if you stand with me to keep the Grand Canyon open!
