I have been reading exchange websites and found these two interesting exemptions:

No affordable coverage: Individual's required annual contribution for coverage exceeds a certain percentage of household income (eight percent) for the taxable year.
Membership in a health care sharing ministry: Individual is a member of a health care sharing ministry that meets IRS requirements and has been in existence at all times since December 31, 1999.

The top one now applies to the price of a FAMILY policy.

Also:

Notice 2013-42 (http://www.irs.gov/file_source/pub/irs-drop/n-13-42.pdf), published on June 26, 2013, provides transition relief from the shared responsibility payment for individuals who are eligible to enroll in eligible employer-sponsored health plans with a plan year other than a calendar year (non-calendar year plans) if the plan year begins in 2013 and ends in 2014 (2013-2014 plan year). The transition relief applies to an employee, or an individual having a relationship to the employee, who is eligible to enroll in a non-calendar year eligible employer-sponsored plan with a 2013-2014 plan year. The transition relief begins in January 2014 and continues through the month in which the 2013-2014 plan year ends.
