My sister didn't have time and my nephew owes back child support so they couldn't get a passport. The Canadian side asked more questions and wanted to see a hotel reservation, which we happened to have with us. After seeing a driver's license and birth certificate, they let them in. Coming back to the US, the Border Patrol agent was shocked the Canadian border service let them in and congratulated them for their luck. There's no luck involved. You can enter Canada with a driver's license and birth certificate, subject to additional inspection. On the US side, SOP is to hand you this letter:

So if a US citizen enters Canada without a US passport and then returns do they then become "undocumented immigrants"? Inquiring minds want to know!

tailfins years ago I went to Nova Scotia after meeting a woman from there, we pulled up at the boarder and she told me to let her speak and I did , the officer asked if we had anything to declare and she told them no and where she lived and all and we where sent on our way , once in Canada is where my fun began, I decided I was going to stay so we went to there version of unemployment ( you have to go there first to be able to work there ) But once there they wanted my passport and when I explained I didn't have one they where shocked that I got into the Country but the only way for me to work up there is I would have to be a resident for one full year or be able to do something no other Canadian could do ( I am a trucker ) well it was now time to go home, so I jumped on a Bus and headed south, once we got to the boarder everything got messy real quick, they came on the bus and asked me a couple questions then pulled me from the bus, along with my luggage, then sent me to a room where I waited until a officer came in and asked me questions, I answered them all honestly and he told me to go to the next room that that was where they really get answers  needless to say I was scared to death but once there all they did was ask me the same question and told me to go on my way, A officer escorted me outside and thank God he did because the bus was leaving , he stopped it and got me back on, NO way am I leaving home again .

I'm legal of course, but I'm thinking about leaving my documents at home and going to visit Mexico. I'm going to sneak back in, perhaps to southern Cali. My drivers license will be nice and clean as an "undocumented immigrant", I'll get a lifetime worth of freebies that I now have to pay for. :poke:

 Heck Yea I was scared , I have seen all those movies showing people being held at the border

Seriously it was on the U.S. side where they hassled me, the Canadians never knew I was there , until I told them that is.

You're not legal. You're a Steeler fan.

Besides, you would need a really serious suntan to be perceived as illegal. More than likely, you will be held in a Mexican prison. Good luck with that.

Yeah, you're probably right! I'm white as a ghost! LOL I've seen what the cartels down there do to people they don't like too. Yikes! Maybe I'll start my trek on the north side of the Rio! :)

Don't confuse courtesy with weakness. If you don't keep your nose clean they will call you sir and tell you to have a nice evening as they escort you to your jail cell.

You can always start in the actual Rio. A few bribes will get you in and out of the country. With a new ID and passport to boot. Perhaps you can pick up a new wife as well. One with readily accessible boobies. :boobies:

I will give you more character credit than Slurposaurus. If you just want to look around in Brazil, entering illegally without a visa (you still need a passport), fly into Cayenne, French Guiana since France does not require a visa, then travel to the Brazilian border by road and enter in the Brazilian border town of Oiapoque.

Someone will take you across the river in their boat for about 5 Euros.
