We're still in the midst of a horrendous rollout of this shitty healthcare act, and here we are already talking about new fees? WTF? Someone really needs to find a way to put this crap out of it's misery and put things back the way they were. At the very best, just design a way to help the less fortunate get discounted rates or some crap, but don't ruin health insurance for the entire planet in order to do so!!

WASHINGTON — Here comes the ObamaCare tax bill.

The cost of President Obama’s massive health-care law will hit Americans in 2014 as new taxes pile up on their insurance premiums and on their income-tax bills.

Most insurers aren’t advertising the ObamaCare taxes that are added on to premiums, opting instead to discretely pass them on to customers while quietly lobbying lawmakers for a break.

But one insurance company, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama, laid bare the taxes on its bills with a separate line item for “Affordable Care Act Fees and Taxes.”

The new taxes on one customer’s bill added up to $23.14 a month, or $277.68 annually, according to Kaiser Health News. It boosted the monthly premium from $322.26 to $345.40 for that individual.

The new taxes and fees include a 2 percent levy on every health plan, which is expected to net about $8 billion for the government in 2014 and increase to $14.3 billion in 2018.

There’s also a $2 fee per policy that goes into a new medical-research trust fund called the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute.

Insurers pay a 3.5 percent user fee to sell medical plans on the HealthCare.gov Web site.

ObamaCare supporters argue that federal subsidies for many low-income Americans will not only cover the taxes, but pay a big chunk of the premiums.

But ObamaCare taxes don’t stop with health-plan premiums.

Americans also will pay hidden taxes, such as the 2.3 percent medical-device tax that will inflate the cost of items such as pacemakers, stents and prosthetic limbs.

I looked these up when they first started listing them. Suffice it to say that ANYTHING that can placed in or on the body be it permanent or temporary will be taxed. It gets taxed at the manufacturer, the wholesaler, the retailer, and the user. So any thing that is placed in the body will be taxed at least 4 times before implanted or used in a person where it will be taxed a 5th time. do you all really think this will LOWER cost.

Ohh by the way an "implantable device" is anything that goes into or on the body. This means IV's, catheters, hips, knees, screws, radioactive seeds and chemicals that do not serve a medicinal purpose (contrast media and radioactive imaging agents) and even band aids!!! As you can see it encompasses EVERYTHING other than medicines.

This is a MONEY grab by uncle same plain and simple. They want to own the 6% of GDP that is health care!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

here is the Federal Definition of a "medical device". It is VERY broad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(h) The term "device" (except when used in paragraph (n) of this section and in sections 301(i), 403(f), 502(c), and 602(c)) means an instrument, apparatus, implement, machine, contrivance, implant, in vitro reagent, or other similar or related article, including any component, part, or accessory, which is--
(1) recognized in the official National Formulary, or the United States Pharmacopeia, or any supplement to them,
(2) intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions, or in the cure, mitigation, treatment, or prevention of disease, in man or other animals, or
(3) intended to affect the structure or any function of the body of man or other animals, and which does not achieve its primary intended purposes through chemical action within or on the body of man or other animals and which is not dependent upon being metabolized for the achievement of its primary intended purposes.

As you can see it is pretty much ANYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!

section 301 is for veterinary supplies
section 403 is food
section 502 and 602 are about recalled devices. So if its broken you don't have to pay!!!!!!!!!!

It's 16%...1/6th of the economy and you bet your ass they want their hands on all that money. You can count on them being the same quality of stewards with our healthcare dollars that they've been with our Social Security funds. They'll have a field day blowing our money on everything OTHER than our healthcare and then claim, "Sorry, we're broke" when you need treatment.

Taxing medical devices? Where's the compassion?

Growing up in liberal Massachusetts, GovCo didn't tax necessities like bread and milk, only luxury items like candy and furniture.

Apparently liberals want money more than they have compassion.
