So this guys finished 13th in the 15k skiing event. His dreams shattered. No medal. At least he has his Mom to support him and tell him how great he his...
Some tough love came from the mother of Norwegian cross-country skier Martin Johnsrud Sundby. The skier had a poor showing in the 15-kilometer race on Friday, ending up 13th, nearly two minutes after the event's gold medalist, Dario Cologna of Switzerland. His mother didn’t even attempt to hide her disappointment.
"You're the worst Norwegian,” Gro Johnsrud Langslet said of her son on DBTV. “You should go home."
Let’s hope those words were meant to be taken lightly, although it didn't seem like she had much faith as her son neared the finish line during the competition. Langslet was heard saying, "Look at that. He doesn't stand a chance."
Sundby has had a rough go in Sochi, even beyond his mother's criticism. After winning a bronze medal in the 30-kilometer skiathlon event Sunday, Russian officials requested an investigation. Sundby beat out his competitor Russian Maxim Vylegzhanin by 0.1 seconds, and the Norwegian was seen clearly crossing into Vylegzhanin's lane a few meters before the finish line. The Russian team said the move unfairly obstructed the Russian's ability to catch bronze.
Nevertheless, his mom (kinda) defended her son's Olympic ability: "He isn't as bad as this indicates. This is the worst he's been this year."
Yikes. Guess not all mamas are the warm and fuzzy kind.
