If you're looking for a new career in the exciting field of aviation, the Federal Aviation Administration is now taking applications to for new air traffic controllers.

The requirements for the position do not include, however, previous air traffic controller or aviation experience. The job previously sought those with military or prior aviation experience.

According to Forbes (http://www.forbes.com/sites/johngoglia/2014/02/09/resumes-ready-air-traffic-controller-openings-go-public-tomorrow-no-experience-needed/), the FAA is set to hire more than 10,000 controllers in the next 10 years, with more than half being hired in the next five years. The application process, beginning Tuesday on the USA Jobs website, is open until Feb. 24.

The current job listing (http://www.faa.gov/jobs/career_fields/aviation_careers/?cid=TW204) requires only United States citizenship, security clearance, a physical, fluency in English, three years of responsible work experience or a bachelor's degree. The applicants must able to attend the FAA training academy (http://www.faa.gov/about/office_org/headquarters_offices/arc/programs/academy/) prior to their 31st birthday and willing to locate "to an air traffic facility based on the FAA's highest needs at the time."

The training school (https://www.academy.jccbi.gov/catalog/international/contents/introduction.html), located in Oklahoma City, includes 12 weeks of training (http://www.federaljobs.net/airtrafficcontrollers.htm).

Fg-1 starts at $10/hr....really. Not sure how much training one should expect when you're paying them the equivalent to a call center operator. Just follow the script.

Well, I'm out.
I was out at 10 bucks an hour; I got paid better than that as an intern.

I'm guessing that's only for training. ATCs usually do pretty well.

The median annual wage for air traffic controllers was $122,530 in May 2012. The median wage is the wage at which half the workers in an occupation earned more than that amount and half earned less. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $64,930, and the top 10 percent earned more than $171,340.

Training period so short because they are offering speed classes for certain minorities of the dark skin tent wearing kind. You see they only have to learn how to guide the planes into certain buildings , helping the planes to land not required. They call it the Obama crash course..... Already have 45,000 sand rats signed up.. Tyr

I went to ATC school at Kessler AFB back in 74. The training was more like 16 weeks at that time. It's very difficult and mentally strenuous. You have to be 100% on everything you say on the radio and you have to say it precisely as it is written in the books. You're responsible for all the planes in your area and all the lives. To says it's stressful is an understatement. As I remember starting pay for controllers was 50k a year. Whatever this $10 an hour bullshit is just means you might not want to fly again after the next 6 months or so.
