Jon Meis, 22, a senior who volunteers at a security desk inside Otto Miller Hall doused the gunman, 26-year-old Aaron Ybarra, with pepper spray and wrestled him to the floor after he opened fire in the building on Thursday. An engineering student who volunteers at a security desk inside Seattle Pacific University was hailed a hero for stopping a mad gunman after he shot four people, killing one.

Armed with just a cannister of pepper spray, Jon Meis confronted the shooter, 26-year-old Aaron Ybarra, as he attempted to reload his gun during the bloody spree at the school’s campus on Thursday, witnesses and police said.

Meis, 22, a senior, doused Ybarra with the pepper spray and wrestled him to the floor before a couple of bystanders jumped on top of the pile to hold the gunman down.

“He saw the guy and got his pepper spray, sprayed him in and tackled him,” Meis’s friend, Patrick Maguire, told KOMO-TV.
