Poly journalism chair to be inducted into Hispanic Journalist's Hall of Fame

George Ramos, Cal Poly’s Journalism Department chair and a Pulitzer Prize winner, will be inducted into the National Association of Hispanic Journalists Hall of Fame.

Ramos will be honored at the association’s 25th anniversary convention in San Jose from June 13-16. Two additional inductees are Emmy Award-winning television producers Cecilia Alvear and Rigo Chacón.

Ramos, a three-time Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter with the Los Angeles Times, has been serving as Poly’s journalism chair since 2003. A graduate of Poly in 1969, he credits the university with giving him his start in the news business, according to college officials.

In 1984, he won a Pulitzer as co-leader of a team that produced a series about Hispanics in Southern California. In 1992, Ramos won another Pulitzer for team coverage of the riots in Los Angeles. He won a third Pulitzer in 1994 for spot reporting about the Northridge earthquake.

Ramos was named by Latino Today newspaper as one of the Central Coast's Most Influential Latinos in 2006.

I'm sure his "coverage" of his fellow ethnics was pure, unbiased reporting. He wouldn't be taking their side or anything.

Hey, whose beat is covering WHITE PEOPLE, anyway?

I wonder if the latino newspaper has to adhere to affirmative action...
