View Full Version : AAA: Iraq Civil War Pushing Up Gasoline Prices in US
I keep reading how the problem in Iraq is going to raise gas prices in the U.S. and I am not sure why. All through the wars ( or what ever you want to call them ) I have heard how we only get 6 % of our oil from them, so yes even though it is a small percent I could understand gas prices being effected a little, but I have seen predictions of $5 a gallon and so on ( that doesn't make sense ) Now I read a article showing gas going up, well if most of the country has to pay more for oil I have to wonder why we don't here. I fueled up this morning and gas has actually gone down 3 cents in the last week. This makes me believe that all this talk of gas going up is done by the oil companies here to make more money. What thoughts if any do y'all have and has gas gone up where you live ?
AAA Mid-Atlantic says the civil war in Iraq is pushing up gasoline prices in the United States.
Drivers in the District of Columbia are paying $3.89 per gallon. That's up 5 cents from a week ago and is far above the national average of $3.68 per gallon.

Every time there's some fighting in the ME they talk about gas prices going up. Just BS. When any of the corporations want to increase their profits they have some global or regional catastrophe. Coffee plants had a bad year. Coffee goes up, but never goes back down to original level. Oranges have a bad year. Orange prices sky rocket, never to return to original levels. Bad year for sugar beets. Sugar price go up, never to return to original level.
This is just more excuses to raise gas prices. It's the same excuse used every six months.

"ALL THE MORE REASON why Obama and his Democrat friends want to prevent more OIL production, and new Refineries here in the U.S.A.
As long as WASHINGTON idiots can prevent America becoming Energy Independent. The MORE money they get to keep in their OFFSHORE ACCOUNTS.
You know? Those accounts DEMOCRATS always claim the WEALTHY, RICH Republicans use?
All the while. Those Same Democrats HIDE their own OFFSHORE ACCOUNTS to avoid OBAMACARE taxes????"

Here, a litre of 95 shot up from $1.58 to $1.72 overnight. Currently $1.69. The oil companies use any excuse to hike prices.

No better here jafar, like I said in my hometown gas has actually dropped but according to the article it is going up in many places.

Same thing when I was in Canada AT, a litre of gas back then was almost what we paid a gallon here is the U.S. , that was in Halifax ( a poster made sure to let me know Halifax is different the rest of Canada , as for me I have no idea  but he was so adamant that I believed him)

What is that? A US gallon is 3.78 Litres meaning we are paying A$6.39(~US$6.00)/gallon. Is that high or low by your standards?
