My mom, being German, is quite enjoying it. We all have German jerseys with which we form a three-generation support group.
Schnaps for all in the finals! :cheerss:

I watched the humiliation of Brazil around 24 hours ago ... a shock 7-1 defeat for them.

A classic example of pride and overconfidence being the cause for downfall, if there ever was one.

Never really cared. But how pleased I was to see how those in RIO were pretending to copy most other nations following both...their LOSS, and WINS.

Disrespect, poor sportsmanship, law breaking, near riots tends to reassure all of us how MOB RULE, moreoften called DEMOCRACY....has no boundaries.

I've watched more matches this year than any year before. I watched almost every game in the group stage (the USA's group). Then of course all the major games since. I was for USA from the beginning. Since then I have been having fun watching all the other powers get knocked out. The only teams I would have liked to see advance further would have been England and Italy. And the same as the others, it was funny to watch all the tears in the stands as Germany annihilated Brazil. Then they burnt their own flags afterwards! And now Argentina goes to the final on penalty kicks. I'm German myself but can't find myself rooting for them. I'll be a Messi fan for the final. :)

And watching "chomper" as I call him, Luis Suarez, getting tossed for biting was hilarious. This was his THIRD time biting someone in a match!!

My room mate is from Germany, she managed to schedule flying there last week, her brother got tickets to a match. They won. Her facebook page was full of pics of the crowds at the game and afterwards at Bierhaus. Quite a ruckus. LOL!

Another friend is from Costa Rica and she's been obsessed with the games, basically for whichever Latin country is playing Germany. LOL!

I was until the US was ousted. Wish I'd have seen Germany though.....wow

Germany's win reminds me of a high school football game hubby was in. They were so far ahead that their coach told them "don't score anymore points, we don't want to embarrass them".

Yeah, my Facebook page looks like it's been caught in the middle of the games! LOL!

I slipped out with my sons to an amusement park. My wife was cranky all day yesterday. Telling her it was just a game just made it worse.

I was glad to see Germany win, they played an excellent game.

I was starting to think there wouldn't be any points scored lol.

I've got mostly German blood in me, I suppose. And I think they are one awesome soccer team.

But I was born in America and can only root for America. While it was fun to watch, I certainly could never act like "my" team won when Germany won. I'm happy for them, but Go USA in 2018!!!

Same her Jim. While my ancestors came from Germany, and my grandparents lived in Pennsylvania Dutch Country...(Lancaster-Reading) area. I am an AMERICAN first.
Never had any hyphenated citizenships in our family.

"PROUD to be an American". By the way. Never bother to watch World Cup unless U.S.A. is in the final mix.

America is a nation of immigrants.
One should never miss a chance to celebrate one's heritage.

When in competition, you only root for one team. You were born and ARE an American, therefore you root for the home team! :poke:

But ok, ok, when it's the WORLD cup, I suppose it is ok for one to celebrate their heritage. But knowing it's not the USA, that celebration should be a tad muted out of respect!

Jim. This thread is nothing more than gabby's way of rubbing salt into someone's wounds.

Notice how many takers/responses she got?

HINT....http://icansayit.com/images/troll.jpg Happiness, gabby style.

All is fair in love and war (and sports!)

Maybe she is, maybe she isn't - but without bragging rights, sports is less fun! Of course it would have been better had she chose her team before the tournament started, but she bandwagoned after the USA was knocked out. LOL

The best part of the WORLD cup? Seeing all of the beautiful women from so many ends of the world! I was a fan of quite a few countries there for awhile!

I am American first and foremost. When the U.S. played Germany, I passionately pulled for the U.S. (my mom was on the fence. she has family to deal with. ).
The beauty of the World Cup (which, by the way, is the only competition that produces an actual world champion) is that you can choose favorites depending on who is playing. We chose through our friendships abroad.
When England was playing, we rooted for England. Same with Italy, Australia and Mexico. To satisfy our upcoming hosts, we sent photos of my daughter and I wearing Italy jerseys during one of their matches.
You haven't lived until you have watched a famous club team (in this case AC Milan) with a rabid supporter.

What about these fans who were just trying to watch the world cup? Were they terrorists?

Nine people were killed and 15 wounded as football fans were bombed when watching the World Cup semi-final in the Gaza Strip - See more at: http://www.middleeasteye.net/news/world-cup-fans-killed-gaza-bomb-hits-cafe-1394390500#sthash.sCMQHrzf.dpuf

Indirect casualties of allowing their country to be ran by terrorists. If they opted for peace, instead of terror, then they aren't in the midst of war.

Not really sure why a sports thread needs to go political. I could post an article showing about 3,000 people who simply wanted to work for a fair pay - until 19 radical Muslims stepped in. But that has little to do with sports, as does your reference.

Sports threads should be about sports and nothing else. Jafar obviously doesn't wish to reference Australia going winless in the group stage.

jafar. What a phony, inept, terrible liar you are. Using the old photo's your Hamas friends so often. The collection library has to number them.
Funny how you never mentioned the HAMAS rocket attacks that also took place.

But then. You wouldn't dare want to spoil your Propaganda campaign with such facts. Would you?
