Hopefully this will destroy Hamas, or at least seriously set back the terror ridden group.

Netanyahu's office says purpose of mission is to destroy terror tunnels and seriously harm the infrastructure of Hamas and other terrorist organizations in Gaza.

IDF ground forces began to move into the Gaza Strip on Thursday evening, the prime minister's office confirmed.

The purpose of the operation was to destroy the Gazan terror tunnels leading to Israel, according to a statement released by the prime minister's office.

"Israel is committed to act to protect its citizens. The operation will continue until its goals are reached: To bring quiet to the citizens of Israel for a long period of time, and to seriously harm Hamas and other terrorist organizations' infrastructure in the Gaza Strip," the statement read.

Prior to the commencement of the ground invasion, the IDF launched a massive wave of combined air and artillery strikes on Thursday night.

The IDF said that the operation will involve infantry, engineering corps, and tank units combined with air force and naval support and intelligence.

Palestinian sources said strikes occurred up and down the Strip, adding that one strike targeted a motorcycle apparently carrying members of a rocket launching cell on their way to an attack on Israel.

Let's hope the IDF makes a clean sweep with zero Israeli losses. The problem is the terrorists know they're coming and will more than likely set up ambushes while hiding behind civilians.

Its a war on the press, most of the world opinion is relayed on that.

Casualties will be high in Gaza. That's sad, but like I said, war is hell. But Hamas has got to go. One can only hope that the Palestinians would learn from this, and perhaps grow and select new leaders who actually want peace, and that aren't known terrorists. But I'm afraid this will be a temporary setback for the terror group, but we can hope for more.

Let's hope the IDF does a total CLEAN-UP, and CLEAN-OUT for once, and for all.

HAMAS should become nothing but a FOND MEMORY for jafar.

Israel has no intention of taking out Hamas, even if they could. Like the US some enemies must be dealt with incrementally, hands are tied.

Of course this plays into the hands of the enemy, no choice.

Kathianne. I agree. Which is why I said "LET'S HOPE".

But, nonetheless. I do hope Israel is able to drastically slow Hamas down, and expose where their biggest supporter "IRAN" has been playing against the U.N.

I've a horrible feeling that you're exactly right.

Frustrating in the extreme. Ultimately, all that holding back does is to prolong the terrorism. If I have any strong criticism against Israel, it is that they are too soft on their sworn enemies.
