I have some fuckers on the line from Windows Tech Support. They got my last name somehow... lol

So far I've wasted 23 minutes of their time and have him very frustrated.

He wants me to run an executable... I'm afraid I'm not following his instructions very well. I think he's from India.

Well, I made them waste 36 minutes and really frustrated 3 different scammers. Their English was atrocious, so I pretended to not understand their website instructions after they gave up on trying to instruct me how to give them remote access.

They tried to steer me to ammyy.com and infosis.com (do NOT go there, fellow DP peeps).

After I reported getting a result of "Not Found" several times, they hung up on me, after the last one declared, "Sir, I think you are having funny with me!".

I told him I was surprised Bill Gates was having Microsoft call around to infected computers to Americans with people who could barely speak English, which ratcheted up his anger levels considerably.

They probably spoofed the phone number, but it was : 734-925-3651.

I should have recorded it... it was very funny as they got more and more pissed with this stupid American who doesn't know where the Windows Key is.

That's awesome! Every now and again I will reply to them Nigerian fuckers and act all amazed and act like I hit the lottery. Hell, I may even toss them a little fake information. Its comical watching them get squirmier when they think they have one on the hook.

Ahhh yes, the 419 Scammers from Nigeria. They can be a real hoot.

There's nothing more satisfying than wasting their time and frustrating them until they're ready to kill. And the time you make them waste on you is less time they have to scam someone gullible enough to actually give them money.

There's a group of people that try to outdo each other with scamming the scammers, mostly Nigerians - it's a big industry there.

One of the goals is to send the Nigerians on "Safari" - the object is to try and get them to travel as far away from home as possible on their own dime while you bait them with promises of money, laptops, cars, etc. Keeping in mind that these Nigerians made first contact by trying to scam, your conscience is clear by keeping them busy hitchhiking across Africa, sometimes all the way to Iceland or Russia.

Another goal is to get "Trophies"... that's where you have them make something or have them pose in ridiculous pictures and have them send it to you - all on their own dime, of course. That's the beauty - scamming the scammers. The more outlandish the trophy, the better.

Here's my favorite trophy, naturally it was taken right around Christmas time - note the Pyramid he had the scammer build out of sandbags in the background :

http://www.debatepolicy.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=6238&stc=1

The hilarious backstory to this picture is that there was another scammer in Nigeria that was being sent on a wild goose chase to this one's town, because he was told that there was money hidden inside this pyramid shown at the base. His instructions were to steal the money and destroy the pyramid.

The scammer Grinch caught the other one in the middle of the night and a big fight broke out, and the cops ended up being called and a few of them went to jail. Good times!

That's mighty racist of you. Not all Indians are incompetent. I take a different tack. I ask them how much authority they really have. Why take it out on someone working to feed their family for $200 (12,000 Rupees) per week? Have you considered that they have no other good options? Blame their boss. English with a Hindi accent is still English. I have no trouble understanding it. Maybe you're just not that bright.

Besides a call center is still just a call center. I tried resolving a problem with my cable bill and had to deal with a call center in Tennessee. "We all's just a call center; I have no way to solve any problems." It took detective work on my part to get to the right people.

You guys can only imagine the amount of spam I get, with the board email which gets tossed around between the worlds robots. And my main home email is the same I have used since like forever, 15 years or so. I use programs that allow me to view ALL my mail on my server, and then I pick out the spam and delete before it even gets to my machine - but I can still preview them.

So after reading last night I said fuck it, maybe I'll reply to one of these guys and take pictures down the road of the replies. So I open one of them which was about Viagra, and of course spammed a link in it, and wrote in English, Russian and hieroglyphics! So I let that one through so I can reply to it...

I noticed before I even started typing, as soon as I git the reply button - I would have sent the email to myself!

This is nothing new to me, but how spammers work when they don't need a reply... They spoof addresses to mimick the receiver. It looks like you're spamming yourself! You can lookup the IP addresses of these and find it from Poland or wherever, but the written address is changed.

Denied!

The best scammers to bait are the Nigerians, Jim. They'll always have throwaway email addresses, like Yahoo or Gmail and claim to have a bunch of money for you. Sometimes dating, but that's more of the Russian scammer style, Nigerians usually focus on the greed factor with large amounts of money just out of your reach. They all want you to use Western Union, though, every time.

This is the email that got that Scammer to dress up as the Grinch - after making him build that monstrous pyramid out of sandbags. The guy baiting the Scammer has him on the hook with the belief that he will head a new branch of a Church with a large salary, a house, car, electronic equipment, etc.

I can't remember what the 'Church of TWAT' acronym stood for, but it's not important because it made it funny and the Nigerian accepted it after seeing a bogus website the baiter slapped together. The Scammer's real name is Omoruyi.

Dearest Omoruyi,

Blessed brother, I have received the map and I do thank you very much for it. This will help our engineer tremendously.

As you requested, we have uploaded your monument to our website. You can see it here:

http://gpsflight.catholiccall.org/twat/monument4.html

You are also featured on the homepage. We hope that this is a good birthday gift to you. I have also attached a movie file of one of our sermons if you are interested in familiarizing yourself with our practices. I believe the file is called twat.mov

In regards to the Christmas celebration, we need it AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. The Mozambique branch waited to the last minute to back down and I am now in a bad predicament. The celebration will be outlined below. First you need to understand the history of the celebration.

During the lifetime of TWAT we have had many financial contributors, men who have donated large sums of money for our cause, and usually anonymously. We refer to these great men as The EATERS. And there are only a few EATERS out there. The biggest of all the EATERS is a famous writer by the name of Dr. Seuss. Perhaps you have heard of him? He is very famous around the world for writing great children's stories. One of his most famous stories is "The Grinch that Stole Christmas". And every Christmas for the past 15 years, we celebrate the life and death of Dr. Seuss by having one of our branch churches perform one of the scenes from the book. It is a great event that the children of TWAT enjoy! I have even attached a file called grinchcelebration.jpg of one of our American ministers performing the clebration. Here is exactly what you need to complete the celebration:

- Green paint

- Red paint

- Santa suit

- A sleigh

- A dog or a goat

- Some tree branches

- A large piece of paper for a sign

STEP ONE
Apply the green paint on your face and hands. You must make sure your whole face is painted green. This is to look like the Grinch who is also green.

STEP TWO
Put on the Santa suit. Make sure it is a good looking suit and it has a santa hat as well. This is very important.

STEP THREE
Create a sleigh. It does not have to be real...it could be only one side of a sleigh but looks good. You need to paint it red with the red paint.I have attached some photos of what a sleigh looks like. If you can also wrap some boxes to look like Christmas gifts, that would be great!

STEP FOUR
Take the branches and use them to make antlers for the dog or goat. There is an example of this in the file I have attached called grinch2.jpg. The dog or goat (whichever you chose to use) needs to look like a reindeer.

STEP FIVE
Make a very large sign. It needs to be affixed to the pyramid. The sign needs to say "The Lad that Stole Christmas" in big bold letters . "Lad" means Grinch in old TWAT language. We would use the word Grinch but because of copyright laws, we do not have the power to do so. However, everyone in the TWAT community knows that Lad means Grinch so that is how we get away with it. And now you know! Smile

FINAL STEPS
Take the sign and affix it to the pyramid about halfway up. Put the sleigh in front of the pyramid and the goat or dog in front of the sleigh. You may need to tie the dog or goat to the sleigh so it doesnt run away. Then you stand inside the sleigh dressed as the Grinch with your green face and santa suit.

PHOTOS
We need you to provide several photos of the celebration. We need a few photos of you getting everything together for the celebration (the process) as well as a few photos of the final part of everything in front of the pyramid. Additionally we need a close up photo of your face in costume as the Grinch . I have atttached a file called grinch.jpg that shows what this closeup photo should look like.

When you have finished with the celebration, please take all the photos, scan them, and send them to me IMMEDIATELY .

Also, there is one more thing that you need to do for the church dear brother Omoruyi. This is required by all branches. We need you to record a Merry Christmas message for all the TWAT members. It is very easy. All you have to do is call this number (my private line)

206-984-XXXX

I will not answer the phone. It will go to voicemail. When it does, all you have to do is leave your christmas message to the TWAT members. The only requirement is that the first line you say is:

"Hello, this is Reverend Omoruyi and I would like to wish a Merry Christmas to all the members of TWAT and especially all of the EATER members."

After you say this, then you can say whatever you feel about TWAT and Christmas. How does your TWAT make you feel during Christmas? What is it that draws you to the TWAT every day? These are just some of the questions you may answer in your message. Remember, this is also to gauge your speaking abilities and how you preach a sermon. It will help us decide whether we need to bring in a public speaking coach for you because as your church grows, we will need you to be a very charismatic speaker. So I suggest you write down what you want to say first, practice it, and then call and speak your sermon. In fact, whatever you decide to say, I will also need this in written form . You can just email it to me. I need it for our records. And please, do not forget to say that first line. It is the way we open up all of our Christmas messages at TWAT.

If you have any questions, feel free to email me. I am very very busy this time of year with the holidays quickly approaching so I may not answer your email right away. However, please do hurry with the Christmas celebration and message. My reputation depends on it.

Thank you and God Bless,
--
Reverend Benjamin Dover

This guy Baiting the scammer is a genius. The scammer eventually ended up going on a long Safari after defending his Holy Pyramid from the other scammers and finally wised up a long way from home after the promised airplane never showed up to give him a ride back home with all the money and gear. It was one less Nigerian trying to scam people from Internet Cafes for several months and may have cured him of his shenanigans.

If you have that file in your computer or you entered a suspicious link in the past time I suppose you probably also have a spyware on your PC and probably also named your windows user with your last name since the whole family use it, I suggest you should write down all the details of your accounts in the internet, try to change them later after formatting.

No, my machines are clean, Daniyel. I'm pretty savvy with computers.

Microsoft couldn't care less about your machines being infected, and they definitely don't have a department calling people to help them fix infected machines.

These were just scammers, and not very good ones at that. It was fun to toy with them and frustrate them.

We had a friend years ago who we would text with that number (pager back then). He called it and it wasn't active. He kept repeating the number talking about how familiar it was! LOL It wasn't until my brother in law started singing it that he finally caught on.

Then we had another friend who we used to page with the local police departments number. He was a tow truck driver, and would do municipality towing at times, so it made sense. Man he would get pissed after the fact though!

I appreciate the op. Today though was a major headache, not due to windows.

Big mistake, I bought an HP Chromebook 14 after reading a Wired review. Price was great and seemed it would do what my wants are.

That was like 4 months ago.

Moved last month, needed to have printer/fax/copier. Bought an HP Envy 4502 mid June. It said 'Chrome compatible'.

Two, mind you 2 HP products.

Well I never thought I'd say I missed AT&T, but I do. We have cable/internet from some company called Suddenlink, AT&T doesn't serve Sedona.

My roomate had no problem setting up her Mac with the printer, the day I bought it. Me?

Today I waited nearly 30 minutes on online chat with HP, before realizing Suddenlink had gone down, (4th time this has happened while trying to get printer on computer.) Ah, but I had time. So restarted modem and got connected, again. Signed in, again. Waited another 30 minutes, again.

Finally connect with Marquis.

After 'chatting' for 10 minutes, seems he hasn't the 'expertise' to deal with Chromebook and printer-both HP products. No, that 24/7 site doesn't have a one with the expertise. Have to call between 6am-7pm my time to find someone who does.

I'm boiling mad.

Kathi, did you install the disk that came with the printer on to your machine? A lot of people overlook that simple step and many times it's going to be the only way the computer recognizes that printer.

No disk drive. Okay, you'll need to go buy one of those USB dvd-ROM units.

You could also download the needed drivers directly from HP but usually that is not very straightforward. Easiest way will be to get that portable dvd unit.

Kath, here are the appropriate drivers. I don't know if you have Windows 7 or 8, so this is as far as I got. Choose your operating system and continue to the download. After installation, you should reboot, and "hopefully" work after this install. This install would be the same as the CD that NT refers to.

I can help if you wish, we can try on the phone if you have issues. We can also use a program that would allow me to attach and do it for you. Uninstalling program when done would kill any potential connection down the road, so no worries.

Let me know when you see this!!

I realize it's too late now, but I would never buy any kind of computer that doesn't have a CD or DVD ROM built in. I know that the manufacturers like to say you don't need it, but you will sooner or later.

I have a friend that bought one of those All-In-One Monitor computers and there's no DVD ROM on it, either. So you're stuck with trying to fix things via the internet and it's almost always a battle to get what you need - especially when there's issues with the machine like viruses or malware.

Looks like Jim has the links for you there, good luck!
