Is anyone else here concerned with this and making preparations?

With concerns growing over the deadly Ebola virus, which has killed 670 people in West Africa, preparations are already underway in the United States, where even healthy Americans will be subjected to forced quarantine in the event of an Ebola pandemic.

Western governments are now issuing alerts to doctors (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-28558783) to be on the lookout for symptoms of the disease after an infected Liberian man was found to have traveled through a major transport hub in Nigeria. The World Health Organization has called the outbreak the worst on record, while Doctors Without Borders says the situation is “out of control.”
Back in April, the Department of Defense announced (http://www.shtfplan.com/headline-news/congressional-report-ebola-bio-kits-deployed-to-national-guard-units-in-all-50-states_07292014) that it had deployed biological diagnostic systems to National Guard support teams across the U.S. in readiness for any potential Ebola outbreak.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has procedures in place to deal with such an outbreak backed by force of law.
The official CDC website (http://www.cdc.gov/quarantine/specificlawsregulations.html) details ‘Specific Laws and Regulations Governing the Control of Communicable Diseases’, under which even healthy citizens who show no symptoms of Ebola whatsoever would be forcibly quarantined at the behest of medical authorities.
“Quarantine is used to separate and restrict the movement of well persons who may have been exposed to a communicable disease to see if they become ill. These people may have been exposed to a disease and do not know it, or they may have the disease but do not show symptoms,” states the CDC (emphasis mine).
Such stringent regulations have led to fears that an outbreak of a dangerous communicable disease in the United States would lead to massive abuse of power by the federal government and the imposition of martial law.
The Common Sense Show’s Dave Hodges points out that the seriousness of the Ebola threat makes a mockery of the Obama administration’s current immigration policy.“Even if there was not a present immigration crisis at the border, there is a significant outbreak of Ebola in a seven country region of West Africa,” writes Hodges (http://www.thecommonsenseshow.com/2014/07/29/the-u-s-is-quietly-establishing-ebola-quarantine-centers/). “With modern air travel, this government should be enacting protocols to limit the chances for Ebola from coming into the United States. Instead, President Obama is having ICE and DHS load up the buses and planes, at taxpayers expense to ship them throughout the United States without going through a minimum of a three week health screening period (i.e. Ebola’s incubation period).”

In the UK, we're getting the mixed message that, though an outbreak here cannot be guaranteed against, we shouldn't really worry about it, because the chances of a serious outbreak here is very low. Supplementing this are scientists trying to give accounts suggesting that it isn't as easy to contract as, say, SARS was a handful of years ago.

So our authorities, not surprisingly, are trying to lull us into a degree of complacency about it. Which is especially stupid of us in the UK, considering the immigration influx we suffered when Labour was in power, meaning that there will be an elevated number of people from that part of the world who've set up home here, but have relatives in the afflicted areas who'll they will visit, return from, etc.

This is all apart from the normal tourism. Again, so far, no strong warnings against visiting the African areas affected has been officially made as yet !!!

The stupidity of all this has to be witnessed to be believed, in my view.

I was reading tons of articles on this last night, some scary stuff! Of course it was "infowars", but they said that they would possible even quarantine those who are healthy should an outbreak occur. While that may be bad - I would quarantine myself!

Sassy. EVERYONE HERE should be paying close attention to this. Not as a scare tactic, but as something HUMAN BEINGS need to be aware of these days.

The opportunities for such diseases being able to spread is nothing to joke about.
Even members of the CDC in Liberia who are medical professionals have been contaminated.

YES...we should all be concerned. And, for those who enjoy conspiracy theory crap. Ignore it if you want.

Well, I've never discounted a conspiracy theory until there has been lots of information on the subject and I can make my own decision. It always concerns me when "government" tries to downplay something.

I do believe we should definitely not discount this ..... at this point it doesn't concern me as much as the border crisis.

Imagine this scenario ..... a group that hates America picks up some infected people and smuggle them into the US .... and they are shipped through the states, and before you know it you've got

"The Stand"!!!

Americans who went to Africa to help, stricken with Ebola. Two are being brought back to US:

http://www.cbsnews.com/news/experimental-ebola-serum-given-to-stricken-u-s-woman/

Last Updated Jul 24, 2014 11:15 PM EDTA dose of experimental serum was given to an American aid worker battling the Ebola virus (http://www.cbsnews.com/news/american-doctor-in-west-africa-contracts-deadly-ebola-virus/) in Liberia at the request of her stricken colleague, according to the relief group Samaritan's Purse.
In a statement (http://www.samaritanspurse.org/article/samaritans-purse-doctor-serving-in-liberia-west-africa-tests-positive-for-ebola/), the group said that Nancy Writebol was to be given the serum while Dr. Kent Brantly would be treated with a blood transfusion. The group said there was only enough serum for one patient.
Meanwhile, Emory University Hospital in Atlanta said there are plans for an American aid worker who has been diagnosed with Ebola to be transferred there for treatment. The hospital did not say who the patient was and did not know when that person would arrive.
In Washington, the White House said it was looking into options for bringing back both Brantly and Writebol.
Both were said to be in "stable but grave condition" but Brantly "took a slight turn for the worse overnight."

Oh man, I hope they have them in them quarantine bubbles so that they can't spread! They say it only transfers via fluids, but if that's the case, then how are so many getting this disease? Another scary part is that it takes quite some time for symptoms to start showing, like close to a month or so I read.

A scarier and more likely scenario is a group of suicidal arabs exposing themselves to the disease and hoping planes to a variety of countries. This outbreak is taking place in a region overrun with muslim nut jobs. Acquiring vials of contaminated blood would not be difficult.

Captain Trips is in Africa and Randal Flagg is in the white house singing "People get ready there's a plane a comin' "

We should halt any and all flights to and from Africa and not allow anyone into the US through another country who has been in Africa for the last 30 days. I was totally against returning the good doctor and his nurse to the US. This so called vaccine he was given costs millions and although one cannot put a price on a man's head - we cannot afford to cheaply manufacture it to cure the world. I don't trust the CDC. The last thing they want is panic in any country and the Brits should be damn worried. We all should be. Mother nature has a way of cleaning out her closet, she knows when we should be concerned about population. She may be getting ready to do a spring cleaning job 70% of us won't survive.

Interesting thought about Mother Nature. I've always envisioned the world as a entity with bazillions of parasites feeding on it (all living creatures) and then one day wakes up and shakes like a dog to rid itself of the blood sucking vermin it's infested with.

As you said ... helps with the population control .... ebola is like the flea and tick killer.

Just another scare for the masses. The govt will protect you. We'll slaughter pigs and chickens to keep you safe.

Afraid of disease? Don't live and work in high population areas.

If the disease developed in Africa what's to stop a similar one from developing in another part of the world.

If "mother nature" decides to rid the world of 70% of the human population, your chances aren't good.

I'm about as concerned about this as I am about dead bodies walking.

Anyone scared of the Ebola virus first needs to read of the conditions necessary for the virus to develop and spread.
The affected areas of Africa are known for poor sanitary conditions. People do not have clean water or any sort of sewage control.
Unlike the SARS virus, Ebola does not spread through the air. It requires interpersonal contact with an affected person.

WHO Declares Ebola Virus Outbreak Public Health Emergency

Epidemic in West Africa Requires Extraordinary Response to Stop Its Spread, Agency Says

Four new cases of Ebola in Nigeria are related to the infected American who died there

Well, this isn’t good (http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/to-your-health/wp/2014/08/08/four-new-ebola-cases-in-nigeria-all-related-to-american-to-who-brought-virus-there/):

The World Health Organization (http://www.who.int/csr/don/2014_08_08_ebola/en/) reported four new cases of Ebola in Nigeria Friday, all of them among health care workers and others who had contact with American consultant Patrick Sawyer, a spokesman said.“They’re all contacts of Patrick Sawyer,” said Gregory Hartl, a spokesman for the WHO in Geneva. He said all are health care workers, cleaners or others at the hospital where Sawyer was taken after he collapsed in the airport following a flight from Liberia to Nigeria. “We know that he had contact with very few people at the airport,” Hartl said.

Sawyer died in Lagos, Nigeria, on July 25. The Liberian-born American citizen collapsed in the Lagos airport (http://www.washingtonpost.com/national/health-science/americans-with-ebola-were-on-the-front-lines-of-deadly-west-african-epidemic/2014/08/01/0179ea16-199e-11e4-85b6-c1451e622637_story.html) after displaying symptoms of Ebola on his flight there. He had been planning to visit the U.S. weeks later to be at the birthday parties for his daughters (http://www.washingtonpost.com/national/health-science/americans-with-ebola-were-on-the-front-lines-of-deadly-west-african-epidemic/2014/08/01/0179ea16-199e-11e4-85b6-c1451e622637_story.html).

The fact that four people who had contact with Sawyer have Ebola is worrisome because it raises the specter of transmitting the disease beyond Lagos, Hartl said. But the Nigerian ambassador to the U.S. said there have been no Ebola cases outside of the city...

Let's send Obama over to Liberia, and let him solve the Ebola problem like he personally solved the Benghazi problem, Syrian problem, Israeli-Gaza problem, IRS problems, Healthcare problem, Economy problem, VA problems, and School Lunch problems.

If I left anything out. Please feel free to add whatever you like.

In either case. OBAMA THE MESSIAH can take his HOPE and CHANGE with him.

Maybe another NOBEL PEACE PRIZE too!

I have been watching this as a concerned citizen for many days now and was shocked that this topic failed to appear on forums or within the news. There are so many levels/layers to peel and each layer stinks worse than the previous.................just like the scandals of the current occupier within OUR White House. The stink in B.O. is unbearable!!!!! The stupidity in our bringing ebola to our Nation is both frightening to consider the possibilities and shocking in contemplating the stupidity in doing so.

As Gaffer stated, what is to keep the muslums from coming across our border with such a threat. I have wondered why we haven't seen our towns and cities water supply contaminated (since 9-11). Perhaps they are simply waiting for the perfect time to his us all at once. Our border is certainly less than secure and our water towers are definitely unguarded.

A very good book on the subject:

The Hot Zone: The Terrifying True Story of the Origins of the Ebola Virus (http://www.amazon.com/The-Hot-Zone-Terrifying-Origins/dp/0385479565/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1407621707&sr=8-1&keywords=hot+zone) by Richard Preston:

The bestselling landmark account of the first emergence of the Ebola virus. A highly infectious, deadly virus from the central African rain forest suddenly appears in the suburbs of Washington, D.C. There is no cure. In a few days 90 percent of its victims are dead. A secret military SWAT team of soldiers and scientists is mobilized to stop the outbreak of this exotic "hot" virus. The Hot Zone tells this dramatic story, giving a hair-raising account of the appearance of rare and lethal viruses and their "crashes" into the human race. Shocking, frightening, and impossible to ignore, The Hot Zone proves that truth really is scarier than fiction.

Richard Preston is the bestselling author of The Hot Zone, The Demon in the Freezer, and the novel The Cobra Event. A writer for The New Yorker since 1985, Preston is the only non-doctor to have received the Centers for Disease Control's Champion of Prevention Award.

He is a very good author. I've read a few of his books and must say, he makes non-fiction interesting.

For what it's worth, his brother Douglas Preston is also very good... He mostly writes fiction.
