Please help me settle a debate with my daughter.

What do you think it means to call someone a "tool"? Or put another way, what do you think is a good synonym for the word, when used as an insult?

Thanks

That's what I thought as well. It seems it is becoming a more general use term for just about any failing like when you accidentally break the yoke while cooking over-easy eggs.
What a tool!

One who lacks the mental capacity to know he is being used. A fool (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=fool). A cretin (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=cretin). Characterized by low intelligence and/or self-steem.
That tool dosen't even know she's just using him.

BUT... You may want to read the "words related" at the bottom...

Also, further definitions...

One of three things:
a. Device used to apply mechanical work.
b. The Band.
c. Someone that is used for another's gain.
d. A penis.
e. Loot spelled backwards.

A useful idiot.

Or a penis.

Or both.

Thanks everyone for your help. This isn't going to settle anything. One of us thought it was another way of calling someone a d**k. The other thought it meant idiot. I guess we are both right.

The way it's used here, and in the Marine Corps, you're getting called a d*ck without saying the word d*ck. :)

If you need to learn about insults, ask someone who works in a secondary school. We know all of them.

A "tool" is someone who does the bidding of others without knowing it. A "tool" can also be a lackey, someone who lacks the intelligence or self-esteem to think or do things for themselves.
Adult "tools" constantly suck up to others or do their bidding in attempts to curry favor or seek professional advancement. You probably know a lot of them.

Gunny. Don't cut her down. She says she has degree's, and proves it as high as secondary school training proves.

Gabby has reached the BLACK & DECKER tool status. Headed for Craftsman...if Sears will let her in the door.

Technicality: Black & Decker is owned by DeWault. ;)

I'd like to introduce my school teacher Army vet Daddy's little girl with Daddy's little temper to Gabby. I bet they'd be BFF.
