a small piece of history returns

http://i62.tinypic.com/219p91h.jpg

VP Harry Truman at the piano and a very young Lauren Bacall on top.

"A sitting vice president entertaining a Hollywood star? Sounds like something that could happen in Joe Biden’s Washington. But a moment starring vice president Harry Truman, back in 1945, is getting renewed attention after news broke Tuesday that actress Lauren Bacall had passed away at the age of 89."

and Bess??? she was pissed. the Bogarts were big supporters of Truman. as well as Ronald Reagan

I can't put a finger on it, but I have always liked Truman. At least based on what I've read and heard... Maybe it's because he always struck me as a reluctant president? I've always thought the best man for that job is the one who doesn't want it...

in this case true. he and Bess hated DC and couldn't wait to go home. I used to watch him walk past my HS with his secret service agent in tow. almost every day

That's pretty cool!

Did you ever get the chance to go out and meet him & shake his hand?

That's awesome. I'm jealous!

I've always thought that he was a great American, and he had some hellishly hard decisions as President. I'm sure that decision to nuke Japan haunted him the rest of his life, even though it was definitely the correct move.

LOL

We'll just pretend this didn't happen....

Democrats weren't the commie bastards that they are nowadays. My Grandpa was a hardcore Democrat up until about mid-70s or so. He was already leaning, but then when they started the gun-grabbing crap, that made his mind up quickly.</gulp>

I agree the big takeover of the Dem party began in the 60's and by the 80's had been accomplished. We are now looking at 30 plus years of that socialist change increasing and spreading its ills upon this great nation. The scum bambastard is the climax of that long range plan and these last two years of his we will see so much more harm inflicted upon this nation deliberately by him IMHO..
A huge enemy of this nation is the Dem party...... Any competent study reveals it is almost entirely anti-American in its platform and actions taken.. -Tyr

Trumann was an old-style democrat.
A great man(personally) but his firing of General Douglas McArthur is a huge black mark on his record IMHO. We should have attacked China and defeated them just as the MacArthur wanted to do. Now 60 years later -we see China has emerged to be one of our top enemies--and strangely enough-- biggest trading partner.
While fools claim China is one of our allies! An ally that designed a ballistic missile specifically to destroy American aircraft carriers!
With allies like that we don't need any enemies..-Tyr

Truman was fearful of bringing the soviets and Chinese into the conflict abomb and all. and Mac was really agitiating them. his back talk against truman's policy were his own un doing. he even cited war should not be left to these temporary residents in the WH. so he sunk his own ship. you don't talk to a president like that without risking getting canned.
