`Interesting quick read...`

`After nine months of hospital and doctor visits, a young boy receives an unusual life saving transplant. His illness is a lesson for all of us`

`Sometimes the smallest bumps in the road can spin you out of control. That's what happened to 3-year-old Michael Ham.
It all started in December 2013, when Michael came down with strep throat.
"We just assumed he'd get better," said Rachel Donegan Ham, Michael's mom.
But while taking medication for the strep throat, Michael developed a life-altering bacterial infection.
"Initially, we went to the hospital for dehydration in February," she said. "He stayed there for eight days, because he couldn't stop throwing up and having diarrhea."

The diagnosis
Doctors eventually took a chance giving Michael another antibiotic. It worked for a few weeks, then he relapsed. Four months of constant doctor visits finally turned into a diagnosis -- a condition called CDiff.
"CDiff is a bacterial infection that happens in the intestinal tract," said Dr. Sujal Rangwalla, M.D., a pediatric gastroenterologist at Dell Children's Medical Center. "In the last one or two decades, it has started to become much more prevalent."
Here's the problem: Antibiotics kill the bad and the good bacteria in your intestines. In some cases, the bad bacteria, also known as Clostridium difficile, begin to multiply. In Michael's case, the bad bacteria took over his tiny body.`
