`Julia Pierson resigned from her position as the director of the Secret Service on Wednesday, but the change in personnel is unlikely to reinforce the nation’s faith in an agency that appears to be systematically incapable of fulfilling its critical role without repeatedly embarrassing itself and the president it is tasked with protecting.
Pierson has been replaced with Joseph Clancy, a former agent who has come out of retirement to temporarily oversee the Secret Service.`

Pierson was brought in on 18 months ago with the mandate of cleaning house. The agency had been humiliated by the earlier revelation that agents had hired prostitutes in Colombia. “But while the administration dubbed Pierson a fresh start and a new direction for the agency, she was a deeply entrenched part of its culture,” Leonnig wrote (http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/pierson-failed-to-provide-fresh-start-for-secret-service-that-administration-wanted/2014/10/01/51a642a2-49a8-11e4-891d-713f052086a0_story.html) in the wake of Pierson’s resignation.
The 30-year veteran of the agency had suggested reducing the number of officers who patrol the White House perimeter by a third, and raised eyebrows when she expressed her frustration about public perception of the agency by drawing an unfortunate comparison. “We need to be more like Disney World. We need to be more friendly, inviting,” Pierson reportedly said. (She had, per Leonnig’s reporting, worked as a costumed character at the theme park during high school.)

Look - this is the problem with our nation electing a baffoon. The people a baffoon appoints tend to be worse. Our administration surrounds itself with incapable people and then wonders why shit gets worse.
