It is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion,it is by the beans of Java that thoughts acquire speed, the hands acquire shaking, the shaking becomes a warning; it is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion.

A mug like that would keep other people from using my mug.

And then I can always hold it up when I don't like something someone says and say Kiss My Mug!

Take a sip of coffee from it and look at anyone watching you and say WHAT?

Talking of pictures, the dog/sofa one is great ... & sums me up, first thing in the morning ..

I reckon that you can't beat a good, industrial-strength cup of espresso. Not only because it's strong (& tasty), but because if it's strong ENOUGH, you get the additional feeling that you're drinking strong medicine. Which has its own therapeutic value ..:coffee:

When people start talking about coffee I feel like an alien from another world. I don't like coffee and everyone in my family know not to send me to the store to get coffee. I don't make it either. My daughter finally bought me one of those Keurig things so she could make it easy for me to make her a cup of coffee!! :slap:

I just use it for making me tea or hot chocolate.

Still baffles me how everyone needs coffee to get them going in the morning ... isn't that what a shower does?

I've got to be in the mood for it (.. which I frequently am, and then, only 'industrial strength' coffee will do - I use a Nespresso machine, but its not really ideal). Sometimes I want coffee, sometimes I much prefer tea.

I'm a Captain Picard sort when in a 'tea mood'.... 'Tea, Earl Grey hot' (on its own, nothing added).

Delicious.

Has anyone tried adding instant coffee granules to a 'smoothie' (e.g the NutriBullet, or 'Vitamix' sort) ? No reason to pre-heat coffee if you do that - & I reckon the mixture of coffee plus fruit & veg supplies an extra kick to it over and above what you'd get from either taken on its own.

Totally agree with this too. Coffee is vile ... Takes a mountain of sugar and bucket of cream to make it semi edible AND it gives you bad breath. What's to like? It is also used as an excuse for gossipy old hens to stand around the break room yakking and avoiding work. Pointless. :)

I have a pounding headache and woke up early, 5am here, and of course immediately poured a cup of coffee. I'd swear some of these headaches are from too much coffee, and then I try to use coffee to help alleviate the headache. Here's my lame coffee of the day for today, which is fairly mild, but good for the morning and for what ails me. :)

Here's my lame coffee of the day for today, which is fairly mild, but good for the morning and for what ails me. :)

I have that one too. They are VERY similar, only the Nantucket is a little stronger. Similar also, to mine, is Donut Shop. Also have a shitload of plain Green Mountain coffees. I have (5) 24pk boxes I just bought, all "half-half", in the hopes of trying to minimize how much caffeine I drink. :)

Kahlua is okay in it, but I much prefer Bailey's Irish Cream in coffee! Only get to do that on weekends, though.

Ah yes, I've tried that. I agree -- it's a great combination (for those preferring more milky coffee). Adding Tia Maria isn't at all bad, either --

Ok, I give, I think I learned my lesson. I had my usual double mug first thing this morn. Then I started on the single K cups after that. And they are half/half. I think I had maybe 5 regular cups after the double? But then I was out for a bit, and I should have known considering I was already jumpy and way too talkative, but the Dunkin Donuts looked really good for whatever reason. I was dying for a bagel from there, don't ask. And I ended up walking out with a medium coffee and no bagel, too damn crowded and didn't want to wait. Then my Dad called, and I went with the flow and the next thing you know I was back home, with an empty coffee. And then the cat and I were competing to see who can bounce off the walls more!

Luckily for me, I'm already nuts and get medication for anxiety. I took one to slow my body down before I puked from the jitters.

I'm portioning out my coffee starting tomorrow and am sticking with it. I'm gonna start with 3 K cups tomorrow, one double to wake up and one small cup. With half/half it's like 2 cups or so. My goal will be to get down to one good cup of joe per day. Admittedly, I don't want to quit altogether, love the stuff too much! But a cup or 2 a day is manageable and won't do me harm.

Or maybe quit altogether and wake up to a big fat line of cocaine? :badsnort:

My older brother used to drink coffee day and night. Here in the South we , many of us drink iced tea that way but to me drinking about 15 to 20 cups of coffee a day is insane. I say that while admitting that once(as a young man) I drank about 8 to 10 glasses of iced tea a day, some hot summer days perhaps 15 glasses ..
My ex-mother-in-law (now deceased-heart attack) had coffee brewing day and night year round. I never counted precisely but know of summer days I saw her drink at least 15 cups of coffee. And these were the larger coffee cups. -Tyr

I have slowed down now but when my kids where playing in the little league age baseball I would walk up to the game at 5:30 in the afternoon with a cup of coffee and no one understood how I could drink hot coffee in the heat we have down here, the hot liquid actually quenched your thirst better than the sweat tea (but make no mistake I am and always will be a sweat tea junkie )

Any true Southern man gonna drink iced tea. I drink mine unsweetened. Start doing that about 30 years ago. When I do drink any sweetened , it is very lightly sweetened with honey as it comes out hot , before its chilled in the refrigerator.
As of now I drink maybe three glasses of iced tea a week. Have to avoid the caffeine !

I can go through, easily 2 12cup pots of coffee a day. LOL! (12 cups is a misnomer, they seem to be based on small cups that go with saucers.)

I don't care if it's hot or cold, coffee keeps me going.

Yeah, I also drink probably a like amount of water, tea, and juice. My brother wonders how I do so. Always have.

Kat, I hope that much coffee going thru your system operates on the good scale as it certainly flushes the system. The problem is with most people the caffeine in that high amount eventually wears badly on the bladder/kidneys.
Yet your body, your system may be genetically predisposed to handle it quite well.
I just remember saying for years about my ex MIL drinking that much coffee, how she'd have a heart attack and eventually she did!
Yet I had an older friend that drank 3 or 4 fifths of whiskey a week. Had been doing so for over 55 years. He lived to be 92!!!
Seems some are blessed with great genes!!!--Tyr

I hate to admit it, but both my parents were coffee junkies, though my dad stopped in the evening. Not so my mom and I. LOL! Truth is, not with my parents permission, my friend and I began drinking coffee at 10, at the counter of the Rexall three blocks from our house. At that time we switch from sundaes and coke, when we found you only paid for one cup of coffee. Refills were 'free!'

By the time I was in high school, I was drinking it black-didn't want the calories and was always fearful of artificial sweeteners. (Not of overdosing on caffeine though.) Yeah, I'm a genius! LOL!

Seriously though, I think the amounts of liquids I drink, other than coffee, probably offset it somewhat. While I drink quite a bit of iced tea at times, (also without sugar), mostly it's water and/or juice.

OK as for the bold print , I am shocked Bro, we call those teetotalers a well um a faggggs  J/K well not about what we call em but I will let ya in on a secret (just don't tell any of my Brothers down here ) when I get a sore throat I drink hot tea with honey in it all the time, but shhhh don't tell anyone.

Also my condolences on the lack of tea, Sweat tea is a southern staple, I can still remember the first time I had it, I had come down to SC for a job interview and was then making plans on being down by the first of the month, my step Mom's Mother took my dad and I to a place called Mr. Steak, it was like a 105 that day, I walked in and they poured me a glass of sweat tea and I took a sip, my God it was the best thing to ever cross my lips ( or at least I felt that way at that point ) well I kept picking it up and sipping it, noticing this my step Mom's Mother told me to drink all I want, refills are free ( up in NJ you paid for a cold drink and that is what you received, if you wanted a second you paid for it ) well not only where refills free they put a pitcher on the table, as my Dad and step Mom's Mom spoke about how good the steaks where ( it was the high class restaurant in town ) all I could do was tell them how good the tea was, yup I had a 16 oz prime rib sitting in front of me but all I cared about was that glass of tea, needless to say they brought us a couple of other pitchers that day.

Sweet tea is different than iced tea. Mind you, I don't like to drink my calories, dessert is for those. That being said, here's some recipes:

I can tell you first hand caffeine is a killer, I had a heat attack a few years back while I was still on the road, one that I told folks for years was a minor heart attack, I have recently ( last time I had a check up ) found out the one I had the doctor's referred to as the widow maker, seems like 70% die from the type I had and then it's like 60% don't survive another 5 years after it, well I was on the road still when I had it. I was running anywhere from 3000 to 6000 miles a week and home on the weekends, so you can imagine there wasn't much time for sleep. I can barley remember talking to the Cardiologist in the hospital but I do remember the wife telling him I was doing pills to stay awake, I was Pissed, and explained anything I took was legal, that I bought them over the counter at any truck stop, the Doc laughed and said " yes the old diet pills, he said basically they where like 16 cups of coffee rolled into one pill" and then he said " and I am sure you have one of those great big truck driving mugs" ( the ones that hold a pot of coffee) which I did, and yes I would take two Trucker's Luv its at night, one around 9pm at night and the other around 4am , once the sun came up I was fine , he told me I should of been dead years ago, he told me caffeine is a poison that kills millions each year.

Kat we have a tea maker but it can be made in a pot the same way, I prefer to use Luizanne tea bags ( but most all will work ) to make a gallon of tea I boil half a gallon of water and put 3 tea bags in the water, let sit for about a half hour then pout it into a gallon pitcher half filled with ice cubes and one cup of sugar stir and then finish filling the pitcher with cold water, stir again pour over ice and enjoy !! :thumb:

So simple to make and one of the best drinks out there, IMO anyway.

I don't do jolt or hot shots of caffeine, I never have done espressos. Truth is I love me Folgers. Not strong, nor weak, just right. Black. Hot, warm, iced. If that kills me, so be it.

I always liked Folgers as well, but then I found the K cups ( thanks James ) now I drink Nantucket Blend but and of the Green Mountain blends will work.

Can you imagine the cost of K cups for me? OMG! I must say though that I enjoyed my times at friend's home, dog sitting her Great Dane. Donut Shop k cups. I used them all!

On January 20th I received a package from Amazon. It contained 4 boxes of coffee, each box containing 18 K-cups. I have like 4 cups left. :( Wife told me I am a walking heart attack. That true from too much coffee?

The best one is the Donut House! But that's full caffeine. While I do drink way too much, at least for the past few months it's been the generic half/half made by Green Mountain.

According to my Cardiologist it is, not so much the coffee but the caffeine, he said it is a major poison we all put in our bodies and most don't give it a second thought.

I now drink 2 cups a day, if it's cold maybe 3 ( 2 every morning and one at night when it's cold ) but the sweat tea I drink is filled with caffeine as well, if ya can acquire the taste for non caffeinated drinks you are doing yourself a great thing.

`In the past, the consumption of coffee was generally regarded as being detrimental to heart health. Coffee was said to increase blood pressure, increase cholesterol levels, and increase the risk of heart attack and cardiac arrhythmias (http://heartdisease.about.com/od/palpitationsarrhythmias/a/heart_rhythm.htm). However, more recent and more careful studies have suggested that coffee might not increase the risk of heart disease, and in fact might actually reduce that risk.`

For The Love Of Coffee, I Tarry

Just one more cup of coffee before I have to go
the weather is bad and the boss will surely know
If I tarry along and fail to clock in on time
no mercy there, excuses aren't worth even a dime

Yes, one more of the black joe if you please
it settles my worries , sets my mind at ease
I need to drink this hot coffee in a minute
my job is to drive a truck, I'd best be in it

One last cup just for the snow covered road
work awaiting, I'll not be late or so bold
Black magic, it damn sure hits the sweet spot
cranks my brain, gets me going like a rifle shot

Yes my fair lady, please pour just one more
I need the boost to race out the front door
That tastes so like goodness in a great kiss
love my black coffee, morning joe I never miss

Yes darling, I promise this last cup for me
I have many miles to drive, so much to see
Few more drinks to blast me into the big race
to deal with those crazy drivers I have to face

Sweetheart, brew some more, that pot I drank
woke me up fine and I have you darling to thank
Please, this cup of black magic will be my last
I'll bolt out that door, you'll see how very fast

Just one more cup of coffee before I have to go
the weather is bad and the boss will surely know
If I tarry along and fail to clock in on time
no mercy there, excuses aren't even worth a dime

Robert J. Lindley, 02-08-2015

note: For medical reasons I can no longer drink lots
of coffee. I miss that the most in cold weather as it was
a godsend then. Just thankful that I no longer have to
work out in the cold without my cup of joe.

Now you can enjoy your third daily cup of coffee and feel healthy while you do it: According to a new study, that third cup of joe may be good for your heart.Researchers found that people who drink between three and five cups of coffee a day are likely to have less coronary artery calcium (CAC) than those who drink no coffee at all.

Participants who drank between three and five cups of coffee a day had the lowest prevalence of CAC with a calcium ratio of .59. Those who drank less than one cup a day had a calcium ratio of .77. Those who drank one to three cups a day had a ratio of .66. And among those who drank more than 5 cups a day, the ratio was .81.

The authors write that their study adds to a growing body of evidence that the moderate consumption of coffee is good for heart health.
The study does not address why coffee seems to be good for the cardiovascular system, however, and the authors write that more research is needed to understand this relationship.
<iframe id="google_ads_iframe_/4011/trb.latimes/news/science/sciencenow_4" name="google_ads_iframe_/4011/trb.latimes/news/science/sciencenow_4" width="300" height="250" scrolling="no" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" frameborder="0" style="border-width: 0px; vertical-align: bottom;"></iframe>

A flurry of recent reports suggest that there are many reasons to drink coffee: For example, it has been associated with improvements in short term memory (http://www.latimes.com/science/sciencenow/la-sci-sn-caffeine-helps-memory-20140113-story.html), and reducing the risk of developing multiple sclerosis (http://www.latimes.com/science/sciencenow/la-sci-sn-coffee-ms-multiple-sclerosis-risk-20150226-story.html),melanoma (http://www.latimes.com/food/dailydish/la-dd-drinking-coffee-linked-to-lower-melanoma-risk-20150121-story.html), Type 2 diabetes (http://www.latimes.com/science/la-sci-sn-coffee-type-2-diabetes-study-finds-20140423-story.html) and liver cancer (http://www.latimes.com/science/sciencenow/la-sci-sn-coffee-liver-cancer-20140410-story.html).
