Navy version.

At 5:23, is that an amphibious vehicle launching into the water out of a Chinook? If so, that's completely badass!

It looked too small to me.....I believe it was an inflate that the chopper rocked side-ways out to the sea. Really great video. It made me wonder why, after all these years, the need to have branches of the military. My only conclusion was pride, heritage and a resemblance to our system of 'branched' gov. BUT pride can sometimes be a bad thing and heritage can often times prevent growth but (IF) our Army, Navy and AF isn't equal in power and simply follow orders from the CIC, I ask the question again.......why couldn't we have one, UNIFIED "Leviathan"? I'm not down-playing any particular branch but truly wonder why. It seems that the Navy is the best of the best and offer ALL that the other branches so I'd say connect all of them and call them................BAD@$$ES.

You have to have specialists. If you have a group of people that are focused on one aspect of warfare, like Ground Campaigns, then they'll be better at it because that's their focus - instead of a group that handles Air Superiority, Ground Campaigns, Resupply, Naval Dominance, Amphibious Assault, Intelligence covering all arenas, etc. Sure, you could do it, but not as well as a guy that is focused on the one task and the best ways to complete the task.

Marines are focused on Amphibious Assault and ground warfare, but they do have a bunch of very proficient pilots that engage in both Air-to-Air and Ground Strike operations.

The Navy also has some kickass pilots engaged in the same things, but their focus is mostly Naval engagements and bombardment, along with resupply of course.

The Army is focused on ground engagements and supply, and I believe their aircraft are almost exclusively geared for Ground Strike missions since the Air Force split off in '47.

The Air Force does all aspects of air missions but naturally doesn't concern itself in Naval activities. I wouldn't think that an Air Force General would have any idea as to how to deploy your frigates, destroyers, cruisers and submarines for the most effective defensive screen for that Aircraft Carrier, just the same as an Admiral wouldn't know how to go about when to utilize F-22 stealth fighters with backup Growlers for the less stealthy aircraft involved in a bombing raid deep in enemy territory defended by robust AA defenses.

Splitting the workload to specialized arenas makes for more effective performance - when all parties are competent and communicate with each other, of course.

I don't think you can argue about how things are set up now, it seems to be the best system tried yet.

I'm not a military man, so I'm sure some of our members can point out where I'm wrong on this... just seems logical to me.

No, you did a PERFECT job in reinforcing what I suspected already..................Don't fix what ain't broke cuz we do have the BEST.

And, hey, I thought you were retired young from the AF?! Well, you certainly seem to know quite a bit.......did you (WE) ever figure out what that was being dropped from the chopper? I still believe it is a large six man+ gear inflate/infiltrate.

red state. The SEALS call them RIBS. They've been doing that kind of stuff for many, many years from the back of choppers.
