Ebola may have come to Harlem.

A 33-year-old doctor who recently returned from the disease-wracked West African country of Guinea was rushed Thursday to Bellevue Hospital with symptoms of the deadly disease.

Preliminary results of tests done on the doctor, identified by sources as Craig Spencer, are expected in the next 12 hours, the city's Department of Health and Mental Hygiene said in a statement.

Spencer, who was one of the medics working in Guinea with Doctors Without Borders, had been back for 10 days and told authorities he quarantined himself after developing nausea and a high fever, sources said.

But city health department officials were looking into reports that Spencer was at a bowling alley on Wednesday in Williamsburg and took an Uber taxi to get there, sources said.

According to the updates posted to the WZ article,

Update:

He did not self-quarantine. He flew on planes from Guinea to Brussels and then from Brussels back to NYC. He lived in Harlem with his fiancee who he presumably exposed, went bowling last night at a trendy hipster bowling joint (rental shoes, rental ball), taking an Uber ride to get there and back. He sent his clothes out to be dry-cleaned.

Update:

Hotdog, this is some quarantine. He went on a 3-mile run yesterday (where presumably he sweat), took the A (I took the A train yesterday), 1 and L trains, then went bowling, according to the Health Commissioner.

*******

If the above is true, this news is just darn skippy. Makes me glad that I live as far away from any type of urban conclave as I do.

And so this horrid virus slowly makes its way across the states, but yea no way should we shut down air travel to effected area's, after all it isn't airborne so we are all safe :rolleyes:http://www.debatepolicy.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=6734&stc=1

Since the woman works in the City, and takes the subways all day long, I told her she needed to sleep in the garage for at least the next 21 days. :laugh2:

NYC could stand to be thinned out a bit. :scared:

I agree wholeheartedly! I believe there are about 8 million people in NYC? At least half of them wouldn't be missed!

NYC Ebola Patient Dr. Craig Spencer PASSED 'Enhanced Screening' At JFK Airport (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2806532/So-s-point-NYC-Ebola-patient-PASSED-new-enhanced-screening-JFK-Airport-fall-victim-days-later.html?ito=social-twitter_dailymailus)

Bullet points from the article:

Dr. Craig Spencer returned from Guinea on Oct. 17
The CDC's 'enhanced screening' protocols didn't flag him as a disease carrier because he had no Ebola symptoms
'He went through multiple layers of screening and did not have a fever or other symptoms of illness,' the CDC tweeted
He spiked a 100.3-degree fever six days later and landed in New York City's Bellevue Hospital
Critics are slamming the CDC and the Obama administration for letting west African travelers into the country while requiring airport screening that can't identify patients

******

I don't know about y'all, but damn, I feel *SO* *MUCH* *SAFER* with these enhanced screenings in place. //sarc.//

....Aaaand it just keeps getting better:

New York City cops leave Ebola doctor's apartment and DUMP THEIR GLOVES AND MASKS IN A PUBLIC TRASH CAN (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2805930/Should-Officers-marking-Ebola-patient-s-NYC-apartment-toss-gloves-masks-caution-tape-PUBLIC-trash-city-sidewalk-leave.html)

Honest to god, do the idiots running this mess have a room-temp collective IQ?! :bang3: :wtf99:

From the article (contains photographs and video of the cops throwing the gloves/masks on top of a trash can on the sidewalk):

Two New York City police officers who attended the Harlem apartment building of Dr Craig Spencer - the first confirmed Ebola case in the city - were observed afterward dumping their protective gear and caution tape in a garbage bin on the street.

While it was not immediately clear if the two officers had been inside Dr Spencer's apartment, the episode had many people asking if the equipment should not have been disposed of in a biohazard bag - even if only as a precaution.

Watch this brief video. You will learn how to NOT get ebola. Unless you just want to.
