Man shot dead after striking cop in the head with ax

A hatchet-swinging psycho turned a busy Queens street corner into a scene of bloody chaos Thursday, chopping one cop in the back of the head and slicing a second cop in the arm before two other officers shot him dead on the spot.

The cop struck in the head is in serious condition at Jamaica Hospital, where the second injured officer was also rushed — conscious and alert, according to police sources.

A 29-year-old homeless woman who happened to be passing by the madness was also struck by a stray police bullet; her injury was deemed life threatening, according to police sources.

And now am on phone with my sister. I'm not watching news myself, although this was NYC, but she is saying the news is stating that this nutcase with the axe was a jihadi/terrorist/ radical. Will update more when I find it.

Nothing fully confirmed, but just saw it on the news myself. They are treating this now as a "possible" terrorist related attack. This was CNN that I saw this.

Just got home from the deer woods.....first blame news I see or hear and this is what I come home to. Such a beautiful day (no deer though) and one can actually forget the crap that goes on all over the world......till you come back and get on the computer where we're reminded that the beauty that ya just left is surrounded by ugliness. NYPD have released CCTV footage of the alleged homeless person wielding an attack on NYPD police officers. The officers were just beneath the camera position.

“That type of question certainly comes to mind,” Bratton said at a 5 p.m. press conference when asked about a connection between Thompson and a terrorist organization. “We really cannot say yes or no to that question. This is an ongoing investigation.”

Officer Kenneth Healey and three of his on-duty colleagues were posing for a picture on the sidewalk Thursday afternoon when a hatchet-wielding man charged at them "unprovoked," according to Police Commissioner Bill Bratton.

The attacker, identified as Zale H. Thompson, was hiding behind a bus shelter as if he was waiting to attack the officers, according to a law enforcement official, who said it almost appeared as if he were stalking them.

"This was a terrorist act," Bratton said at a Friday news conference.


Thompson converted to Islam two years ago and then at some point self-radicalized, John Miller, the NYPD's deputy counterterrorism chief, told reporters Friday. Miller said Thompson was self-directed in his actions, and he had no affiliations with any particular group.

Thompson was unemployed, and police said his parents described their son as a depressed recluse who spent much of his time online.

A common theme in his social media presence was "anti-Western, anti-government and in some cases anti-white," Miller said.

According to police, Thompson's recent Internet activity revealed he had searched for things such as beheadings, al Qaeda, ISIS and al Shabaab, indicating that "he had been thinking about (carrying out an attack) for some time," said Miller
