Problem is - do I want to spend $11000 on two pieces of equipment? That's $11000 I could spend on my car instead.

A 'plus' to spending on the camera gear, I could make that money back in a year or two - maybe three. Whereas with the car stuff, it just looks pretty, and makes the car go faster. :)

For $11K you could get a used car in good condition.

Or, you could get:

Warwick 5-string bass: $2,000
Ampeg 1200W head: $2,200
Ampeg 8x10 cabinet, 2 ea.: $3,900
Cords, strings, power strip, case, etc.: $300

Total: $8,400

and still have enough to buy a decent camera! :D

You should lease the stuff if it 's gonna cost that much.

Well I don't have a Warwick, so I think we both know what you need to do with that $$$.

For $11,000 I could fix up our master bath, or get granite for our kitchen island and counter tops. Tell Mrs D to give me a call and we'll talk... :D

I think we can all see that a Warwick bass is more important than more rocks on your counters...

11 grand to take cute snapshots? Just go to Walgreens and pick up a few of those disposable things, you'll no doubt get the same results. Talent can't be bought and all of the wigger crap you put on that Mazda won't make it a good looking car, but you knew that, you just wanted my response.

What is an eos and why would you spend that kind of money to have that written on the front of your camera.......Oh that's right, it's the ultimate in poser equipment to people that have never heard of great camera equipment. You could get a great camera like a Hasselblad for that kind of money but the teenboppers wouldn't be impressed and that is all that is really important right?:laugh2::laugh2::laugh2:

The absolute definition of overkill. Hey, why not spend 11 grand on a speaker system that has audio response that can't be heard by human ears, I'm sure that would be very impressive to somebody.:pee:Canon

You know what, I just answered my question from another post.....eos....extreme overkill shit, I can see that.

Eleven large on a camera and lens.... wow. I suppose I could see it if I made my money with it, otherwise, that's a pretty expensive toy.

I mean, I have probably somewhere in the neighborhood of $90K to $100K in tools, but I make money with them. Over the years it took to accumulate all that, they've PAID for themselves.

If you can make the $11K back with it, do it.

And I guess I'm Sitarro's shit list too... I've owned Canon camera's for going on thirty years. Started with an AE-1. I loved that camera. I've never had a lick of trouble with any one of them, and I always thought they took excellent pictures. I have a Canon Power Shot S3IS right now, and for what I need a camera for, that's more than I'll ever need. I have nothing against Nikon either, but given the choice, I'd take a Canon. I just bought a Canon Pixar MP600 printer/scanner/copier. It has the highest print resolution of any printer at 9,600 X 2,400. I guess I'm a fanboy.... I like Canon stuff.

Mom bought me an AE-1 Program for graduating HS. I shot tons of pictures with it, had it professionally cleaned after about ten years of intense use, and still own it. I bought a Powershot digital for work a few years back, dropped it in the New River during a canoe trip, dried it out and it still works. I just replaced the Lion battery and it cost me less than 10 bucks. I bought my wife their newer model two years ago- her first digital to wean her away from film, and she loves it.

My new digital is a Panasonc Lumix, bought at Costco because it has 10x optical zoom, a Leica lens, and is small enough to ski with. I've had it for 4 months now and its been an awesome camera for me. Takes three 6MP shots in three seconds in burst mode, which is great for my kids sports photos. The movies are great too, and I have filmed my son's entire ski team at events and made myself the hero by distributing training videos for them on DVD.

I do have a Canon copier/ scanner/ fax that does superb copies, except the software is not great and the sheet feed puts 'em through at a slight angle. I'll stick with HP for copies from now on.

It'd take a couple years, at my current rates, but it'd happen eventually.

Can't see using a big gun like that for either, unless you're planning on shooting from a blimp or somethin'. :poke:

The shotgun is way more rewarding than a camera will ever be, and unlike a camera which is worth less every day you own it, a well considered shotgun, or double rifle, is an investment that will make money for you.

make sure the lens and the camera software are cool...my 500mm sigma crashed my d70 and i "had" to be a better camera to support my lens....bummer huh?

and sitaro...11k on speakers is not enough....unless it is each and then you would be short about 10k for good ones.....http://www.wilson-benesch.com/act/act.html

That's what you get for buying a third party lens. :poke::laugh2:

Sigma lenses are known for having to be re-chipped, or otherwise not working, on future Canon SLRs. I guess it comes from having to reverse engineer the Canon EF communications specification.

Sounds like you two are in agreement then. You're just speaking different "languages".

80 X 1.6 = 128mm ;)
