Obama insults Australia: Why did president diss close ally's prime minister?

President Obama’s defiance appears to know no bounds.

Why do I say this?

Consider this: Since the beginning of the last century, Australia is the only country to have fought alongside the United States in every single major conflict.

Australia is America’s closest ally in Asia, and indeed, the world.

So, what President Obama did when he came to the G20 meeting in Brisbane, Australia, was stunning and offensive.

Mirroring his action in sending the bust of Winston Churchill back to England, the President gave a provocative, anti-Abbott (Australia’s PM) speech on climate change at the University of Queensland.

But more than being provocative, it has emerged that the staff at U.S. embassy in Canberra advised him not to give the speech.

To provide background, Tony Abbott is the conservative Prime Minister of Australia, a leader who stopped illegal immigration to his country, a man who has insisted that everyone living in Australia be part of “Team Australia,” and the only world leader to have confronted Russian President Vladimir Putin over his actions in Ukraine and the downing of flight MH17.

Once he took office, he immediately scrapped the carbon tax (cap-and-trade) that his liberal predecessor had implemented when she became prime minister. Now, Australia has come to represent the last great holdout to the climate change agenda.

It surprised few that climate change had been left off the G20 agenda.

Yet, President Obama dedicated the bulk of his speech to climate change, making the customary liberal claim that Australia’s magnificent Great Barrier Reef will disappear within decades.

That the president acted against the advice of his own embassy reveals a deeply divided and dysfunctional administration.

Prime Minister Abbott’s office expressed their displeasure at not being offered the courtesy of being warned in advance that the president of the United States was planning to come to Australia to dump on the P.M. Australia’s Foreign Minister Julie Bishop, was forced to publicly rebuke the president, a first for her office while she was in New York chairing the National Security Council.

One wonders why Obama didn’t have the courage to give the same speech to a domestic audience just a week earlier before the midterm elections.

As Greg Sheridan in The Australian newspaper put it:

“Obama’s speech was deliberately designed to hurt Abbott… Historians of the relationship cannot cite a single similar example of a visiting president going out of his way to wound an Australian prime minister…

What was Obama’s purpose? Can one more celebrity orgasm really be more important to the President than maintaining his relationship with his closest ally in Asia? Was Obama preparing for his post-presidential life, as a new and improved Al Gore?”

This action reflects the vindictiveness of the Obama administration that has already experienced many scandals. It also shows the president’s apparent readiness to sacrifice his key messages, in this case on regional security and America’s role, to score political points- not on a political opponent -- but against someone whom he deems an ideological opponent.

Has Obama become bitter and twisted? The same defiance he exhibited in Australia was on display in last week’s announcement of executive action on immigration.

With friends like Obama, who needs enemies?

This entire nation should be asking why he insults our allies so damn often!!
Its a tactic that fits in well with his hating this nation. He desires to leave us friendless in the world while he cultivates friends for the stinking muslims.
The ffing traitor!! I hate that slimy bastard worse than I ever did Clinton.. --Tyr

If a foreign leader made a speech calling out Obama, would you consider that an insult to the U.S. as a whole?

A great number of Australians view Tony Abbott and his government in the same light that many of you see Obama. They feel he is worth less than a bucket of prawns left out in the sun. And that Abbott's ignorance is an embarrassment to his country.
Depends of what side of fence you sit on.

Despite the defense gabby presented for her IDOL and MESSIAH Obama. Obama has been ruining most all of our Former Allies around the world who recognize his Incompetence, and Hatred for anything American...like Freedom, Liberty, and Rights for Human beings who aren't Muslim.

Sure do. But nice try at asking something that means NOTHING, like everything else you laughingly try to say.

When was the last time you visited Australia? Are the people you know lucid and coherent? Or are they similarly eldery people feigning such?

You are now proving that those Australians are FAR MORE LUCID, and COHERENT than you could ever hope to be on any day of the week, month, or year.

So, would you like to tell us all? What does what you have asked in two posts. Have to do with Obama insulting our Allies?

.... and I bet that the vast majority you know from there are Lefties, just as I bet that the vast majority of those Australians you've suggested don't like the Aussie PM are LIKEWISE Lefties.

Because, but 'of course', those disliking Conservative leaders in Australia can't be doing it for partisan reasons .. eh, Gabby ?

Obama's a pro-Globalist Leftie. He'll naturally want to turn against any nation's leadership not playing ball with his preferred agenda.

I know quite a few in the Land Down Under. I call some of them friends and some of them VERY good clients. Some are a bit liberal when it comes to firearms while others are as down to earth and common sensible as any one of us good ole Conservatives here in the USA.......and UK (like good ole Drummond). But what AT and Drummond stated above makes perfect since and point out quite adequately that it is pure ignorance in asking them/us if we know anyone in Australia when the topic is clearly [why B.O. would hound the leadership of our FRIENDS while supporting, time and time again, our enemies].

I'd be willing to guess that the only Aussie she knows is of the lowest standard.........jafar, maybe. It seems that her question was meant to belittle the rest of us (as if we couldn't possibly know anyone from anywhere other than our local nowhere). Most liberals think it "special" to know someone from Europe (for example) or to visit other Nations (as if any of them could ever slightly compare to how good we have it here in the USA). Sorry Drummond.......a bit of that prideful American SPIRIT shinning through again. HA!

Yes, it does make you special, Tyr. I have them in the UK (not just Drummond), PHILIPPINES (great chess player/missionary there) among other places but I don't consider myself special........just BLESSED for knowing a lot of good folks from EVERYWHERE.

One of my good friends was a well know, highly paid international solicitor (now deceased as of the Thanksgiving Holidays a few years ago). He was also my attorney and I felt as if I had an "attorney DAGGET' in my pocket with that guy. The poor guy passed away in the LA Air Port trying to get home to Australia (after a lengthy tour here in the USA buying property and overseeing many things for clients outside the US. He also had a Law Firm in Vegas. He was quit possibly the very BEST client I've ever had (he and an extremely generous client in Texas).

I know no one from there, but who gives a dang, what the heck does knowing someone from there have to do with Obama insulting folks, other than of course somehow it makes you feel good to know people there

OOO wait I know a guy name Paul Hogan, yea he carries a big knife but hunts with his guns  I met him in NYC while he ran all over the top of people's heads to get to some woman

... and your evasion of my actual point speaks volumes, Gabby ... but of course.

I think we can take it as read, then, that who you know in Australia has absolutely no meaningful significance whatever !!

No apology needed !!

Fact is, Red State, that the values which made your country such a 'powerhouse' one in the world are those which defy Socialism. This is why Lefties from abroad hate you so much .. they hate what your success story proves about the uselessness of their own philosophies. It's actually funny .... they bleat on about THEIR superiority - yet, staring them in the face, is proof that Socialism's ALTERNATIVE is the path to success, and is provably superior !!

Facts are facts, and I've no trouble acknowledging them. If I were a Leftie, especially as one based overseas, I'd have to live in a delusional state to cope with reality .. which, of course, says so much ... and maintain a FAR from 'special' status in the process ...

By now. Everyone here should know, and has realized how...gabby is just trying to make everyone else as Miserable as she is.

Mental illnesses from California have been growing, and spreading. We need to thank gabby for exposing us to that fact.
