Granddaughter Alison is flying in from Chicago, bringing her parents with her! So excited! Now if it would just stop raining! Weather forecast is for mostly sunny in mid-60's during the day. It's been raining for over 36 hours, but is supposed to end this afternoon.

We're planning on getting to the Grand Canyon one day. Another we'll have our turkey to celebrate the holidays. Other than that, if the weather is cooperative, just some hiking and site seeing.

At least you were able to escape Chicago. Or as Brazilians who don't like it call it "Xixi, Cagou" or #1 and #2 respectively.

I love how the Granddaughter is in charge and simply bringing the parents along for the ride. :)

Enjoy the time with family, get us some pictures of the Canyon!!!

It's been so long since I've been away, I didn't realize that you moved to Sedona! My dad and stepmom married there. They now live near Sun City.

Well this is likely the warmest winter I'll have. I miss the kids and family/friends too much to stay more than a year. I don't know that I'll go back to Chicago area, but closer than AZ.

Good to see you back now and again.

Just like that, it's over. :waaaah:

We had breakfast a few hours ago, when I got to their room, Alison was playing with the toy I gave her.

Friday night when they came in, I went to their hotel and we spent perhaps an hour talking while Grandma had time to kiss, hug, and cuddle with Alison. They were tired of course, the darling daughter fed the baby and then she and I went to a great Mexican hole-in-the-wall eatery I love. We brought her hubby back a burrito, Alison was sound asleep.

Saturday morning I finished up the side dishes for our 'holiday feast,' while the vacationers went exploring some of the trails and parks close by. Chris was in his glory, taking photos galore.

Meanwhile I made the decision to give 'timed cooking' a try for the turkey. With that choice made, the turkey was going 'unstuffed' since it would be waiting for us to have 4 hours trail hiking. Dinner turned out fine and we had a chance to see some beautiful sites.

Saturday evening we had our feast and Alison got her Christmas presents from me. So much fun and the food all turned out great. After 6 months of cooking for one, this was fun! After we watched some Christmas movies and a dark version of Batman, we finally decided to leave for the Grand Canyon after having leftovers Sunday.

Our little brunch turned out fine and we were on our way. At Flagstaff, we saw our first snow capped mountains.

Another hour and 45 minutes we got to The Grand Canyon.

While I took quite a few pics, I'm no photographer. Besides I'm more interested in the people I love.

I took that picture just after we left the bookstore at the Visitor's Center. I got myself a t-shirt and Alison a book, "Who's Tail Is On The Trail?" (http://www.amazon.com/Whose-Tail-Trail-Grand-Canyon/dp/1934656356) It got really cold, too cold. We headed back to the car to pick up the stroller and a blanket wrap for Alison. She was nice and cozy and playing with her first Christmas toy.

Like her mom, she seems to really love musical instruments!

Such a great time, way too short!

Adorable!!

Thanks Jim. She seems to be a pretty intense little girl. LOL! One can hope she picks up a bit of her mom's more laid back personality, but so far she seems quite a focused little thing.

So precious.

Beautiful little sweetheart Kathianne. Enjoy every second. It seems; only yesterday. Our One, and Only Granddaughter was born. Now she's nine, going on sixteen.
The one thing none of us can stop, or slow down is Growing Up. Thanks for sharing here.

Truer words never spoken. Those of us with grown children already know how fast the time goes, those with younger children are becoming more aware day-by-day.

I always remember my mom saying, "The days may be long, but the years are short."

It was only yesterday that Kendall, Alison's mother was born. I remember that too vividly!

LOL! Looking at the photos, I focus on the one of Kendall and Alison, Chris on the side. Kendall is 5'8" Chris is 6'7". Alison is barely 3 months old. Note she looks a bit 'big?' Wonder why? Don't blame me, I fudge it at 5'2". ;)

Yeah, she's at 100% of height and weight. No shocker.

We had such a good time! Thank you. I miss them already, a bit teary. Alison is so beautiful. Now then, seems about the same time my lease is up, they may actually, finally, have the gig in London lined up.

My luck holds. Sigh.

Still my second grandchild will be born in February, so moving closer will be a good thing. I may already have a job, more to come on that!

I wish you the best of luck !!!

Ma saying goodbye at the end of a short visit is always hard, I have had to do it moving away from family and it stinks, so thank Gof for each visit and make the best of them !!
