I take this view: that they have the hostages they do, is terrible. It's not something to disregard. Even despite that being true .. no Government, anywhere, no matter what the temptation, should ever accede to ISIS's demands concerning them. ISIS needs to be taught an unmistakeable lesson that, not only does taking hostages give them no form of gain, but that when they do, all they invite in response is retribution. Of the kind that vapourises terrorist vermin.
