Seeing some of the earlier roles played by Ken Curtis, for example "Loverboy" in season 9, episode 2 in 1963, it's remarkable how extremely different he was from Festus Haggen. Festus Haggen is first presented as a gambler, lady's man, and wolf hunter with disrespect for the law. He later transitions to a character that is 100% trustworthy and has absolutely no interest in material things and a Deputy Marshal.
