It's funny how things work like that sometimes. My wife use to know exactly when to call when I was on the road and just needed to hear a familiar voice.

It would be hard to imagine anything worse than to be slowly dying under a car that had slipped off a jack, and nobody around to help. I have worked under my cars several times, and not only lift the car with jacks, but have jack stands as a backup, plus blocks against the wheels that are still on the ground. Some guys just have that innate desire to work on their car when they can.
