I've been thinking about the very hard time Jim is now enduring. To have to lose such a beloved pet is a terrible ordeal.
I remember from long ago back to when I went through that tragic time.
I thought to write to help Jim and this is what I came up with. I hope it may be of some comfort in his sad time of grief.-Tyr

Death Is Not The End

Those gone but not forgotten shall endure
in living memories in each loving heart
A testament to great love that is truly pure
crossing death's barrier keeping us apart!

Resting in meadows across the great divide
dearly departed shall embrace yet again
Our coming with love and smiles very wide
into a magnificent paradise for love and man!

They speak to us when the wind softly moans
or cool breeze wraps us on a very hot day
Gentle whispers echoing with such loving tones
so we may know they desire we find our way!

Resting so far away in that gentle goodnight
knowing time will come when we shall arrive
Waiting for the moment our souls take flight
to a realm together again, we shall be alive!

Note: This poem is dedicated to my good friend Jim and his beloved dog, Jerome
May they both know that death is but a brief separation......

Thanks, Tyr. I saw this thread/title in the morning yesterday and couldn't open it, I know it would be good and knew it would make me sad. I know what writing entails, and it often brings out emotions when done properly. I know when I read good writing that's what it does to me, and did here just now.

It means a lot to me that someone would take the time to do so. Thank you. :)

You are welcome my friend....
I hesitated to even write the poem because I know in such a case as this words are of little comfort but sometimes it helps just knowing that others see your pain and know what you are now enduring.
Additionally, I remember the very deep pain I endured those many years ago. That is why I have not ever had another dog.. despite my great love for dogs!
Time is the only remedy--it was for me..
Death is but a brief separation from what we truly love.. I believe that.. --Tyr

It also hurts to know that others have done the same. I read Sassy's reply in my other thread and it broke my heart. I don't think anything really helps, but time to heal. And even then, part of me doesn't want to fully heal, as I feel that would take forgetting some memories. Or maybe those memories will help the healing in the long run, who knows.

Time will show you that we do not lose memories of those we love that dearly. You are correct , time is truly the only thing that helps to heal..
Trust me, a time will come when you can remember fondly all the good and great times ... thats how the healing works--been there twice in my life with my two dogs(once as a kid, then once as an adult)--vowed not to be a third time!--Tyr

A dedication in verse..

Gone But Not Forgotten

Time has passed now and my great friend I miss
our great memories are each a mystical kiss
Once he saw my tired, lazy rising at morn
I remember so well precious moment he was born!

More than a dog, more than just a beloved pet
he is in a heaven now, on that I'll bet
As sadness diminishes and future holds sway
the best reminds me of his loyalty every day!

Time has passed now and my great friend I miss
our great memories are each a mystical kiss!

Dedicated to the memory and loyalty of Jerome.
And the blessing Jim had from that gift..
