View Full Version : Man Decides World's Busiest Airport Is A Good Place To Openly Carry A Loaded AR-15

OK so what do y'all think, I am all for the 2nd amendment and all for you shouldn't even need a permit to carry the 2nd amendment is your permit, but I also think sometimes you can push things a bit to far, if this guy was truly worried about his and his daughters safety a handgun in a holster would of worked just as well. Honestly all I think he has done here is to push the law makers to make a new law, sometimes it is best to leave well enough alone.

The video's are almost funny, this guy certainly carried this gun just to annoy the police.

A Georgia man openly carried a fully loaded AR-15 semiautomatic rifle into Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, the busiest in the world (http://www.aol.com/article/2015/03/27/worlds-busiest-airports/21158601/).
Jim Cooley was armed with the weapon -- complete with an extended capacity 100-round drum -- when he went to drop his daughter off for a flight last Friday. Following the enactment of new state legislation in 2014, it's actually legal to carry a rifle in the open in the airport (http://www.legis.ga.gov/legislation/en-US/Display/20132014/HB/512), so long as the holder doesn't attempt to pass through airport security.
Multiple police officers approached Cooley while he was in the airport (http://www.wtsp.com/story/news/local/2015/06/01/man-says-he-was-harassed-while-carrying-gun-at-airport/28337871/) and asked about the weapon, after which he replied he was carrying it for safety. Officers can be heard talking with Cooley in videos of the interactions he later uploaded to YouTube.

He was within the law. But he's also just doing so to fuck with people. Claiming "you never know what may happen" is bullshit. Look, I LOVE knowing that folks open carry and such. I actually feel better when I go south and see so many people with guns, I feel safer. But the people who purposely gain knowledge, then walk around with automatic rifles in areas they KNOW they are going to be stopped and possibly harassed? How come we don't see a ton of folks walking into their local restaurants with an AR to sit down and potentially scare people? Because it's dumb, and these people want to eat! They have no intent to eat when walking around the streets or an airport, other than to provoke, IMO.

But in the back window, on the inside roof, or other places while leaving the home? I take no issue with that at all. I really have no issue with guns whatsoever. I love them! I just don't understand the people that have a desire to fuck with the cops and TSA purposely.

Some push the envelope when they should leave it alone.

I think I'm okay with it. The more folks are exposed to weapons the less stupid they may be when voting for laws restricting them.

"If you don't exercise your rights," he said, "the government doesn't have any hesitation to take them away."
Well at least he is right with that statement and somewhat right in doing what he did. What he did was show people that obeying the law is being questioned because our own government(hidden power within) dislikes many of our laws and almost everything in our Bill of Rights.
I do not say do what he did but he made a good point. I also do not think the cops checking him out were wrong. He could have been a crazy out to do harm.
What he did had good points about it and bad points IMHO.
We would not have this crap if government had truly targeted the true terrorist religion that set all this off- instead they cater to that stinking so-called religion and decide to hassle the rest of the American public while they granted special fast forward immigration status to certain muslim countries.
They did it assbackwards and did so for a reason. That reason is why that man did what he did(even if most of which I think he should not have done)!
I am so damn right on this it hurts..--Tyr

Thats certainly the best part of what his action accomplished. That and it reignites more attention on how fast law abiding citizens are approached and questioned with impunity while the same authorities have protocol that protects the real enemies(muslims) and even at airports the women can wear apparel to hide their faces and /or objects etc.
I am not aware that any muslim woman has been pulled aside to do cavity searches , or extra inspection the way they do the rest of us-if thats true -it proves my accusations made about the special prefered status given to the very people(muslims) that did 9/11..-Tyr

You are sticking to the 2-nd Amendment to your Constitution, which came into force in 1791, while the Eighteenth Amendment adopted in 1919 was repealed by the Twenty-First Amendment in 1933. What I want to say - the time is passing, the laws MUST correspond and suit tor the present time requirements.

Isn't it amazing that the gun didn't start killing people? :smoke:

He was well within his legal right to do it. Personally, I wouldn't have done it in an airport... you're just asking for trouble there.

And I'm pretty sure that all of the people that saw this and panicked are firing off emails by the dozen to legislators. I think there will be repercussions.

I hope no one confuses my stance on this with gun rights. I too think we should have all the rights on our side. And while I think his actions were ill advised, it WAS within the law. I just see little point in purposely fucking with the various law agencies just to kinda get a response. There are endless ways to carry a gun more and more without poking at the law in a situation that may scare people, similar to those who walk down "main street" in their communities just so that endless citizens call it in because they're scared.

Doing something to purposely rile people up and get a response. It's like trolling the community with weapons.

I DO see the point in trying to make the people less freaky about seeing guns, and to educate them and such. I just disagree that this is the way to do it.

Yup. We may wanna make it law that every age 21 citizen must own a handgun. Or ratify the amendment to change the wording to something like "to protect citizens from a dangerous government..." etc.

That is what I am thinking, yes what he did was legal but now that he had to push their hands they will make tougher laws, as for those saying he just showed it was legal, I remember Noir posting a video of a guy refusing to open his window to talk to a police officer, he was pulled over at a road side check I believe, the liberal thought was he was in his rights to do so, my thought back than was why push the envelope, do as they say and get on out, seems like almost the same thing here, all this guy did is get the law makers looking at the rights we now have here in GA.

Balu. As our FIRST AMENDMENT to Our Constitution says....and YOU HAVE NONE, is...You are free to think, and say whatever you like.
We also have a very old saying here that I believe APPLIES perfectly to You.

Take care of YOUR OWN yard (problems), before telling someone else to take care of theirs.

Our laws do correspond, and still suit the PRESENT time. We call it the U.S. Constitution. Which, has the advantage of allowing WE THE PEOPLE to decide whether to make changes....like AMENDMENTS.
Until WE THE PEOPLE decide to repeal ANY amendment. We have a process, set down by the authors of that Constitution.
And, sadly for your way of thinking. There is NO mention of SOCIALIST thinking in that document.

To clarify my position I want you to understand that I'm standing up for the principle of reasonable sufficiency and adequate regulation of gun storage and maintenance, though I really realize that is none of my business how you want to live in YOUR country, so I am not lecturing you. I am convinced that it is more than excessive to use machine guns, rocket launchers and remote control mine fields for self defense. (I am exaggerating) Besides, the fact of obtaining the guns itself does not solve the problem of SELF DEFENSE at all. For this a person must be SPECIALLY TRAINED and constantly maintain his skills.
See the clip illustrating what I mean. It is in Russian, but everything must be clear. The film is long, but very useful.
And finally, to achieve stable results in accuracy the permanent training is required. At least 1 time a week. Every other day is much better. That's why i mentioned once about my enjoying 100% equivalent of combat pistol "Makarov" by weight, size, sight and design. It also permit to shoot at home at distances at about 5 meters to standard paper target for air gun.
I don't think that anybody saying in favor of guns would like such an approach.

naw. People say that, but honestly, it's NOT rocket surgery or brain science. See bad guy. Shoot bad guy. The only aspect we can't train is wisdom. But better to live with Liberty and the danger of idiots getting guns than to live in the 'safety' of fascism while the government oppresses its citizens (See also: USSR, North Korea, City of WA DC, etc,).

The more familiar Americans become with weaponry, the more-secure our society and nation

`Legal or not I wouldn't do it....*if not necessary....it only draws `the stupid` attention and can have unnecessary after effects....

*The officers were only doing their jobs in "checking out" "received" panic calls...

Driving a bicycle on the street is completely legal also.... I wont do it..

A regular toy gun - or a toy gun no longer looking like a toy gun, and reports that this kid was waving it around at people? BIG difference once some knucklehead decides to alter the tips or do similar to make it look real AND then when someone does so in addition to waving it around at people like it was in fact real.

BIG difference between that - and insinuating that cops are shooting kids simply for having a toy gun.

I suppose it's better than allowing folks to try chopping heads off in public, and the victims can't defend themselves nor can other citizens. I'd rather help defend against such attacks then sit back and watch them die while I condemn guns.

I watched the video I'm referring to and it's horrid. These guys doing their handy work and no one really doing a damn thing. Not until the police arrived, anyway, and of course by then it was far too late. Sad that citizen can't really help fellow citizen in such horrid situations, or worse, defend themselves.

Atleast he wasn't a twelve year old kid with a toy gun, or the police would of had to of shot him dead.

Do you practice being as dumb as a red brick or does it come naturally?

I'm guessing it looked no more like a real gun than this guys in an airport.

I guess you're right though, a twelve year old kid waved a toy gun about as if it was real, deserved to be killed.

I await the Muslim brave enough to walk into an American airport with an assault rifle...not sure if they'd make in to the front door tho...

Was this guy waving his around at people like he was going to shoot? If so, I would have supported the police who shot him in response.

Weird, I just looked back and don't see anywhere where I stated the kid deserved to be killed. Can you perhaps point that out for me? What you failed to comprehend was the difference between a kid playing with a toy gun, with an orange tip... as opposed to one altered to look real. When folks do so, the chances of a different response from the police skyrockets. I simply explained why he got the response he did, and how it was different than you explain - just as how you now claim I said he deserved to be killed.

And over there they can use a knife and kill, while bystanders simply feel useless.

Surely the criminals in the UK will be using guns, not knives, no? Is that not the whole gun lobby logic?

You are sticking to the 2-nd Amendment to your Constitution, which came into force in 1791, while the Eighteenth Amendment adopted in 1919 was repealed by the Twenty-First Amendment in 1933. What I want to say - the time is passing, the laws MUST correspond and suit tor the present time requirements.
