View Full Version : Only Wimps Have People on Ignore

That's pretty much it.

It's like I can't handle the truth so I'll pretend it doesn't exist.

Personally, I think it's a better option than an endless running feud that spills into every thread here on the board by individuals that hate each other and can't agree on anything. That kind of thing derails unrelated discussions because someone wants to rehash something that was said 3 months ago that they took exception to.

Wouldn't you agree?

There is only one member on this board that has ever been a problem for me. I haven't bothered with the ignore feature primarily because I would have some difficulty following some threads if I had someone on ignore. Besides, I am perfectly capable of being an adult and restraining myself from responding to baiting. Just my own humble opinion and YMMV.

Everybody has a purpose, even if it's to help you build a profile and a reminder on who to never, ever trust, under any circumstance, in any activity or endeavor. Unlike some men who get taken to the cleaners by an abusive wife, I had this figured out by the time I was eight years old.

Nope. I agree with some self control. Want a pissing contest? There's an area for it. Not listening to what others have to say because you don't agree with it makes you a Democrat or Republican.

So I guess when the ramp drops on that frog and you deploy , you can just put the enemy on ignore and their bullets won't hit you?

I don't think so.

I don't think I've ever used the ignore function, unless it was years ago with that idiot Psychoblues. That assclown drove me up the wall.

I get what you're saying, but in my mind it's like an Unknown Number ringing my cellphone. I have those phone calls set to be ignored, because everyone I want to talk to shows up on my display. Everyone else can either unhide their phone number and try again or they don't talk to me.

If someone chooses to not interact with someone, the ignore function makes their experience on the board better and they interact with people they choose to. Not everyone is here for a no-holds-barred rumble.

I'd have to get instructions on how to find the ignore function, and I used to run a vbulletin board.

You should be admin and have psychoblues and a few others in your inbox morning, noon and night. All being mistreated, of course.

The think of that inbox as a string of ASCII codes and it won't matter so much. How do you REALLY know the message isn't written by some bot authored in North Korea?

I disagree. I've seen this very board have problems time and time and time again, due to feuds rolling over from the cage area and more, and infecting far too many other threads. It makes those threads almost useless and ruins the board for others not wanting to be involved in fighting. Not every time is it the answer, but there are times when the ignore button is the best answer, for those members and for the board.

Not using the ignore feature means that person wants to see what the other person writes, that they truly don't want to make them 'disappear'. And also far too many times, these folks ask for some sort of intervention from staff. People don't like others getting in their face, they tire of the fighting, but don't want to use the ignore button?

ALL I ever ask is that folks then keep it in the cage area. If you HAVE to fight, bring it to the cage. Call someone out? Bring it to the cage. But 9 out of 10 times it happens in the regular threads and/or regular forums anyway.

Oh, no doubt, you know that. I just wish that the "crap" would remain in this section. I FULLY understand that some back and forth jibber jabber is gonna take place in heated threads - but everyone knows what I'm talking about - the never ending feuds, or wanting someone else banned or gone.

I can list names of members who have even left the board instead of using the ignore button, while claiming they like it here. That literally makes no sense to me.

the list of those that are tired of 'non-heated' threads getting overridden with those that just must slam their 'opponents' is much longer too.

Those continuing to one up others on all possible threads they don't like is disrupting to the rest of us. It's also a way to join those whose posts are just scrolled through. Many don't need to use 'ignore,' we just keep going pasts those posts likely to be boring and repetitious.

I find those that use the 'ignore feature' rather than joining in the sheep mentality not wimps, but better people.

One way or the other, ignoring those that are creating the problem is smart and shows concern for others.

Even without a list. it only takes 2 folks fighting to ruin a thread. I remember a few years back (not naming names) posting in a decent thread, about 3 pages long and running. I go to bed, wake up and now it's at 17 pages. 14 pages of 2 people going back and forth. Numbers are made up, but you get the idea.

I admit there have been times I have been tempted to post something that was questionable. But then I think about the fact that this is jimnyc's board, and not mine. He can verify that I have PMd him and asked if it is okay to post something. It's not that I am a goody-goody, it's just a matter of respect for the owner.

I like it here, but I don't like the bickering. It makes me uneasy.

Jim. I also remember how those files were seemingly, passed from ship to ship, late at night, when traffic was really slow. The authors of those typed "WORKS OF ART" spent days, and days making them. And whenever a keyboard (UGC-6) in Navy lingo...developed a problem. It took them longer to change the roll of paper, and the PUNCHED TAPE.
Sadly, those TTY's are no longer in use. Most of them went the way of RETIREMENT, just before I left active duty. And, at the same time. There were no more needs for TTY repairmen.
