Egypt is allowing DNA testing on mummies? I think that's a reversal of a long held position.

That will certainly help to identify many of the mummies that have been discovered (unlike commonly held belief, relatively few pharaohs mummies have survived). Thutmoses I's (alleged) mummy was one of a number discovered in a cache tomb during the end of the 19th century. Among the pharaohs secreted away in the cache, Ramses II (the Great), Seti, Amenhotep I, Ahmose and many others.

If it weren't for the fact that these mummies were hidden away by a band of priests in the distant past, they would certainly not have survived to this day.

I don't see how they will be able to prove it by DNA? How will they know for sure that it is the correct DNA?

I would love to goto Eqypt one day. Do they let tourists into the Valley of the Kings? Id love to see the Pyramids and museums. There is a lot of great history in that country.

Yes, they definitely allow visitors into the Valley of the Kings, as well as Giza and Saqquara and Karnak (across the river from the VK)

DNA evidence will help to identify which mummy is related to whom and perhaps help to identify mummies whose identity is uncertain.

Egypt's chief archaeologist Zahi Hawass said the findings would be compared with DNA from mummies of known members of Tuthmosis's family, including Queen Hatshepsut, whose mummy was identified last week, and Kings Tuthmosis II and III,

The Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA) decided to conduct laboratory tests on one of the unknown mummies in the tomb of King "Citi I" with the purpose of determining whether it belongs to the King Thutmose I or not.
