Heading north with the R/V I've name "Matilda".

First night was here: http://www.militarycampgrounds.us/georgia/eagle-hammock-rv-park. If you have an itch to travel and can use the system, this is a very nice park.

Next night, here: http://www.thesouthoftheborder.com/. Tackiness to the nth degree . But the campground gives a discount to Military and is nicely kept. (And the price is right :2up:)

Traveling for the Summer?

Matilda is a good name for an RV... slow and ponderous! Gertrude would be another good handle.

Hell if you do you and Matilda are going to get run over, unless of course you go through during rush hour than Matilda will feel like a Vette.

Have a great time, and yes Pictures, Picture , Pictures... any questions dmp or NT can assist in that category.

You have to love all the Billboards on 95 for South of the border, my favorite is the one saying " keeping yelling kids they will stop "

Nice Motor Home, I have to ask though, you aren't one of those motor home drivers that comes up the road in a 70 mph speed limit doing 50, if so remember those trucks going by usually have the horses ( and the handling ) to run up and over the mountains until they get slowed was down at the bottom of one, just a pet peeve with me, my Dad had a beautiful motor home and I tried to tell him the same thing, most of those motor homes are driven by folks that have never driven anything larger than the family station wagon and either don't realize they don't stop as quick as a car ( just don't handle as well ) or they are scared to death to drive them.

So true! See it all the time on the way to Flagstaff! Somehow they don't realize that the 'runaway truck ramps' mean huge trailers too! 9% grades are not cool for big vehicles!

Sometimes when you are coming down or going up those Mountains you are doing everything you can to keep your vehicle right so it is hard at that point to drive for the others on the road. I went 25 years without any serious accidents because I drove for all the vehicles around me, sometimes I think folks driving those big RV's ought to have a special lisc. as well, like I said many have never drove anything bigger than a station wagon.

Aren't those South of the Border Pedro signs for like 500 miles in either direction before you get there? I remember wanting to get there so badly when we were kids. "Only 200 miles left..only 150 more..."

Easy fix: They don't sell stuff atop the Pedro's sombrero. Just stay up there until the kids say, "Let's go."

Bilgerat, is that a diesel pusher? That looks like an awesome rig!

And, yeah, Jeff... every summer there are hundreds of motorhomes that drive up from Florida or other far away States, and some of them cruise on our 65 MPH highways at 45-50 as they rubberneck at the scenery. There is usually 4 miles of traffic backed up behind them trying to get around them, even though there's signs that say "Delay of 5 or more cars illegal. Use slow vehicle turn off." but they don't seem to see those, lol. I think the cops are under orders not to hassle tourists because I've never seen one pulled over.

If you get hungry and run short on cash, stop at a billabong and grab you a jumbuck. Watch out for the swagmen.

I hate when the small cars "jump" in front of us when we're trying to get speed built up to climb up the next hill. if the speed falls too far, we get to listen to the roar of the overspeed (makes the wife nuts)

While we don't push the girl at 70 if we don't have to (like building up speed at the bottom of a hill), we do run about 65 and stay in the right lane (unless it's filled with people who are afraid of being on the big bad highway)

No, she's a Ford Titan V10 gas engine. We get about 9 MPG

Most of the rigs I see are blowing down the road at 75 mph or better. The worst offenders seem to be the 5th wheel rigs and bumper hitch types, pulling way to big a camper for their little trucks.

You've come this far, why not keep going until you get to Cape Breton? It's only an extra eight hours. You can cross the border without a passport if you have driver's license and birth certificate.
