He's doing what others should be, 'speaking to what the people are concerned about.' He's not 'the one,' anymore than Palin was. However, they listen and they respond. Now how about getting some of those that really are running to pay attention?

Why Trump is resonating on the right
He may be an object of derision to many followers of the 2016 presidential race, but advocates for tougher border laws are cheering Donald Trump’s controversial statements on immigration.

While they say Trump’s rhetoric could be improved, groups opposed to illegal immigration are hoping Trump’s recent headlines will force other Republican candidates to take firmer stances on border security.

“The first point to make is that Trump is resonating with a lot of people,” Mark Krikorian, executive director for the Center for Immigration Studies, told The Hill.

“It’s not just Republicans, but a lot of ordinary Americans,” he said. “It’s precisely because regular politicians aren’t addressing the issues they are concerned about.”

“When you’re looking at the whole country – the Democratic and the Republican electorates both – they’re almost screaming for alternatives to what they’ve been presented.”

...

“Trump is simply saying what a lot of average Americans who could care less what people inside the 202 and 212 area code thinks to some extent,” Deace told the Hill.

“The idea of this hurting the GOP brand is laughable,” he said. “What brand?”

“They already lie to their conservative base repeatedly,” Deace said of mainstream Republicans.

“Most of the GOP’s base is looking for reasons to revolt,” he added. “The brand here isn’t just damaged – it needs an exorcism.”

Krikorian said the attention Trump’s rhetoric is getting shows Americans are still concerned with border security and illegal immigration.

“When people aren’t having their concerns addressed, they’ll listen to the clown,” he said.

But Krikorian sees a path for Trump to change the GOP’s approach to border security even if he doesn’t win the nomination.

“On the very positive side, if he leads the more conventional candidates to address our feckless immigration policies in a way most of them have tried to avoid, then that could be helpful,” he said.

“Trump could impact every Republican candidate to come closer to his position.”

If Trump is "surging," why is he still losing public and business support?
Gaining popularity among the 10 percent of the radical right is not going to win over the majority that he needs to be elected.

He's not losing 'public support,' as the article actually clarifies. Being tossed from stations or having the Mayor of NY railing against him is what Trump thrives on.

The "public support" that Trump is gaining is not among the mainstream independents that he needs to sustain a viable candidacy. Trump's viewpoints only resonate with those far right voters that he shares with others running for the GOP nomination.

If the democrats don't support it, that means its losing public support! What he's losing is the politically correct liberal elite. Much of mainstream America have been supporting him. I fully support what he said, even though he's far from "my" candidate at this point. Some are probably siding with him and afraid to speak up, for fear of the backlash, but it accounts for his surge in the polls. Many are underestimating the public if they think we aren't sick and tired of the illegal immigration and the never ending crime that comes with it - and SOOOOOOOOOOOOO much of it coming from Mexico. Sure, sure, nice people and all, let's have them over the border legally some day for some tea - but until then our priority should be LEGAL citizens and LEGAL immigrants and preventing crime and protecting our citizens.

Perhaps getting the cotton-eared Left to listen to a majority of rightful and LEGAL citizens is a good thing.

He's tapping into the anger some want articulated and it's not just the far right when it comes to illegal immigration. In and of itself, not a bad thing. Heck the illegals have a bevy of lawyers, DOJ, sanctuary cities and other people/institutions on their side. I get that.

The problem is that there is plenty to say that his issues and theirs do not mesh up, in fact that they are being played for his own ego. The same folks that are quick to point out the hypocrisy of Obama/Clinton reversing themselves on same sex marriage, Hillary railing against the rich, paying women less then men while railing on Ledbetter, so far stick their heads up their ***, ignoring what Donald has said over the years, most prominently in 2000 when he toyed with the idea of what he's doing now.

The bottom line is that the best any of us can do is vote for the man or woman we believe will most closely represent what we'd choose to do if we had the time and inclination to do so ourselves. No one is going to agree with each and every decision of another. The best the voter can do is KNOW what they want and find someone who's record on issues most closely mirrors their own. That is why it is most often a good idea to find someone with an actual voting record in some form, that proves they aren't just 'talking an issue up.'

gabby. Of course. You are right. If anyone listens, and follows the Leftist idea's, and rumors. The left NEEDS, and WANTS Trump to be losing...as you say...support. That would be the IDEAL for all of you.
Using Trump as your real excuse to HOPE, and WISH as most of us have seen in the past, by liberals like you. Only proves how dangerous a TRUMP, or any of the other CANDIDATES against Hillary really are.

Reverse psychology has never really worked for Democrats. As we have also seen in the results of the 2010, and 2012 elections. Would you like to remind us now..Who has the Majority in Both Houses Gabby?

Why is Trump so popular? Because he is saying what many people feel. Our country is being sold out by Barak Obama with the support of many large corporations who see immigration reform as a means of improving their bottom line.

No one seems to acknowledge that many of Barak Houdini's supporters are the ultra rich. And those two have made an unholy alliance. Screw the Middle Class, sell out the country, the Democrats get hegemony for the next 50 years and the corporations get a vast sea of low paid workers
