View Full Version : Microaggression On International Level

First got to understand this slippery slope, which in the US has mostly been found on university campuses:

https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/microaggressions-in-everyday-life/201011/microaggressions-more-just-race

Microaggressions are the everyday verbal, nonverbal, and environmental slights, snubs, or insults, whether intentional or unintentional, which communicate hostile, derogatory, or negative messages to target persons based solely upon their marginalized group membership. In many cases, these hidden messages may invalidate the group identity (https://www.psychologytoday.com/basics/identity) or experiential reality of target persons, demean them on a personal or group level, communicate they are lesser human beings, suggest they do not belong with the majority group, threaten and intimidate, or relegate them to inferior status and treatment.

Now on international stage:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/david-cameron/11804861/David-Cameron-says-describing-migrants-as-a-swarm-wasnt-dehumanising.html

David Cameron insists describing migrants as a 'swarm' wasn’t 'dehumanising'Prime Minister has defended his decision to describe migrats attempting to reach Britain from Calais as a 'swarm'By Gregory Walton (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/journalists/gregory-walton/), and Tim Ross

9:21AM BST 15 Aug 2015

The Prime Minister has insisted that describing those seeking to reach Britain illegally from Calais as a 'swarm' does not dehumanise migrants.

David Cameron received international condemnation for his description ofdesperate refugees camped in the Channel port (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/men/the-filter/11801006/Inside-the-Calais-Jungle-where-men-live-in-solidarity-and-shame.html)attempting to illegally enter the UK.

How dominant are the Left when it comes to your university campuses, Kathianne ? And .. to what extent has THE LEFT been championing your argument against David Cameron ?

I'm sorry to see you doing the Left's work for them in this instance.

I cannot, usefully, do much more to discuss your universities. But as for the vitriol Cameron has taken on this, our Left has poured it on in recent days to deflect from the rather more embarrassing prospect of having a hardliner Left-winger take over the Labour Party (Jeremy Corbyn is seen as leading in the upcoming Labour Party Leadership race), In their case, all they're really doing is trying a damage limitation exercise, because it's 'feared' that Labour will make itself unelectable if Corbyn takes over.

Here's something about Corbyn you might like to attack ... again, from the Telegraph ...

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/labour/11804288/Jeremy-Corbyn-accused-of-being-anti-semitic-as-Labour-grandees-round-on-hard-Left-leadership-frontrunner.html

Jeremy Corbyn was accused of being an anti-Semite by one of Labour’s most senior politicians last night as a series of party grandees rounded on the hard-Left candidate.

Ivan Lewis, the shadow Northern Ireland secretary, attacked Mr Corbyn’s “anti-Semitic rhetoric” and said the party must have “zero tolerance” for such views.

Mr Lewis said he was “saddened” that people on the Left of the party had failed to take a “no ifs, no buts” to anti-Semitism.

It came as both Liz Kendall and Yvette Cooper called on their supporters to pick anyone but Mr Corbyn as second and third preferences as other grandees spoke out.

Lord Hattersley, the former Labour deputy leader, told The Telegraph that Mr Corbyn would have no right to “impose” his views on the party as he called on MPs to openly rebel against his policies should he win.

Meanwhile Gordon Brown, the former prime minister, announced he would be making his first intervention in the race on Sunday in a speech expected to be heavily critical of Mr Corbyn.

With all this infighting going on inside the Labour Party, OF COURSE some deflection is being tried. And you're wading in, whether knowingly or not, with support for their deflection argument.

As for the correctness of Cameron's use of the word 'swarm' .. well ......

They go on to give usage examples, such as:

microaggressions are a tool of suppressing free speech.

I don't doubt they are, Kathianne.

Nonetheless, you're definitely wrong when it comes to Cameron's usage. The dictionary definition quote I've provided proves it. It's also exactly as I've said in terms of Labour's latest mudslinging exercise. They're in severe danger of so marginalising themselves with a Corbyn victory that they'll be out of power for at least a generation .. SO ... they've tried to 'depopularise' Cameron in a hope of equalising things up a bit.

Being Lefties, they've tried a rather nasty tactic for the purpose.

We have a major problem on our hands, thanks to the Calais issue. People have died trying to get into the UK ! But, no. All the left can do is quibble about language usage ... and, incorrectly, at that.

Can you suggest a good book on micro-aggression? I'm pretty good at it, but trying to sharpen my micro-aggression skills. Why do you suppose they don't mention litigation in the OP list of micro-aggressive acts? My favorite way to communicate with an "assertive" woman is with a process server. A process server is a someone who serves a summons. A process server is NOT part of an information technology system. God help you if you are in a traffic collision with me or are a rental property manager and try to show me "who's boss". If you do that, you had better make ZERO mistakes.

What part of sarcasm are you failing to u understand? It was the charge pf insult that I was disparaging.

I think Kathi feels the same way you do about it, Drummond. She's pointing out the method as to how Cameron is being attacked.

Yea, sounds like you are one of those drivers that after the accident is when you actually receive your injuries.
