The Democrat Counter-Attack Against Carly Begins (https://www.commentarymagazine.com/politics-ideas/campaigns-elections/counter-attack-carly-fiorina/)JONATHAN S. TOBIN (https://www.commentarymagazine.com/author/jonathan-tobin/) / SEPT. 18, 2015 (https://www.commentarymagazine.com/politics-ideas/campaigns-elections/counter-attack-carly-fiorina/)

For most the past year, Democrats have regarded the field of Republican presidential candidates as falling into two categories: a band of right-wing crazies that could be easily dismissed, and Jeb Bush, a reasonable-sounding moderate who could nonetheless be easily demonized as another version of his hated brother George. The rise of Donald Trump didn’t alter their view of the 2016 race as one that was theirs to lose, provided that Hillary Clinton didn’t implode over lies about her emails and Clinton Foundation conflicts of interest. But today’s front page story in the New York Times (http://www.nytimes.com/2015/09/18/us/politics/carly-fiorina-gains-traction-in-debate-and-republicans-may-seize-on-her-appeal.html?ref=politics) about Carly Fiorina being the Republican Party’s fool-proof antidote to the Democrats’ false “war on women” meme was the official signal that liberals are good and worried about the former Hewlett-Packard CEO. With Hillary’s “inevitable” march to the presidency evaporating before their eyes and with an aging gaffe-prone Joe Biden or an aging socialist from Vermont being only alternatives to Hillary, that presents Democrats with the possibility of an election in which the gender gap is turned on its head. So it is little surprise that in the days since Fiorina’s smashing performance in the CNN debate this week (https://www.commentarymagazine.com/politics-ideas/campaigns-elections/carly-fiorina-trump-knockdown/), the left has begun to push back hard against her candidacy. That means Fiorina is about to start getting the same treatment that was dished out to Mitt Romney four years and which Democrats had been preparing against Jeb Bush. The question now is whether Fiorina can survive the onslaught.

She's a threat. She ain't first, and won't be last.

I like her. She's got that quiet little voice and she hammers her nails home.

They will probably say some of the same things trump said.

It would be hilarious if the first female President wasn't Hillary

I don't care if the President's a female. We've already had our wannabe black experiment. I want whoever is best qualified for the job. ANdfrankly, I wouldn't want to follow Obama, Un-fuck everything he has done? Job and a half.

I don't like the fact that she offers a lot of talk, but I don't see any specifics as to how she'll accomplish what she says. :coffee:

Yep...look for an onslaught of attacks by the left...similar to how they viciously attacked Sarah Palin. I'm not a Carly fan like I was a Sarah fan, but she's about to get Palined!

This early in the race, that's not atypical. No one is dealing in specifics, especially due to the fact they know the Dems are watching every step of the way. So while I would love more details on the various plans in the works of the candidates, until we get closer into the election, it's just not tactically sound to do so.

Oh, I know, I was just being my usual self and messing with some heads. :)

I love Fiorina so far. I really can't find much I don't like about her. If she ends up the nominee, I would gladly and proudly vote for her.

No more coffee for you. I get your point. I don't like that the only ones that have a plan are at the bottom of the deck, or dropped out. We've had words without substance for 7 years. I don't think we can survive much more of it.

Which begs the question, which is worse: An expedient plan full of sound bites to get the nomination, or no detailed plan at all?

The primaries to me are about the candidates philosophy and accomplishments. The General electin is policy specific.

I agree.

Not to do this, :deadhorse: but the debates are thus far doing neither.

Choice 3: get a plan. You go NOWHERE in the Corps without a 6 point plan of action. You go nowhere as an electrician without a set of plans. Rule 1 is the plan usually goes out the window once the first round goes down range, but everyone at least has an idea of what they're supposed to be doing.

All I see are people jockeying around the questions. We ALREADY have THAT. But the boring guys with proven records but no screen appeal are dropping out. If I wanted a rock star I'd vote for Gene Simmons. ESPECIALLY if he wears the makeup as President.

I want someone capable of un-f*cking this abortion Obama has created. Male, female, green purple or blue. Accomplish the mission.
