Justice Scalia warns that the US Supreme Court is causing the 'destruction of our democratic system'

US Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia was extra fiery during a talk at Santa Clara University in California this week, saying in no uncertain terms that the court had been making a lot of bad decisions.
In his speech, Scalia said he believes the "liberal" Supreme Court is heralding the "destruction of our democratic system," according to an account from the SF Gate.

According to Scalia, the court is giving citizens rights the Constitution doesn't specifically guarantee, like gay marriage and federally subsidized health insurance.

Scalia noted that this interpretation of the US Constitution as a so-called living document arose in the 1920s, when Supreme Court justices at the time interpreted the "guarantee of due process of law to protect fundamental rights not explicitly mentioned in constitutional text," according SF Gate.

To Scalia, this was the beginning of a slippery slope that the US will struggle to recover from.

At the bottom of this slippery slope, according to Scalia, is the now-famous Obergefell v. Hodges case that legalized gay marriage across the country. In his dissent, his position is crystal clear: "To allow the policy question of same-sex marriage to be considered and resolved by a select, patrician, highly unrepresentative panel of nine is to violate a principle even more fundamental than no taxation without representation: no social transformation without representation."

In the landmark cases the Supreme Court decided this year, Scalia has found himself in the minority. In King v. Burwell, the decision that upheld the Affordable Care Act aka Obamacare Scalia derided his fellow justices' interpretation of the law as, "jiggery-pokery," and called the eventual decision in favor of the ACA, "pure applesauce."

With three current judges over 79 the average age of retirement for Supreme Court justices is 78 the next president will have a lot of appointments to make. If the Democrats take the White House in 2016, Scalia will certainly have more applesauce to look forward to.

I think he sees it, and he may be the only one in the race that does see it.
How hard and deep he may drive to destroy it if elected is nothing anybody can know now but he is quite likely to do more since he sees more of it than any of the others. -Tyr

Trump is destroying the right. It's just that simple. He's a divider. All of you angry folk enamoured with him aren't thinking past the part where he turns off independents and moderates and THOSE are the people who decide who is President. Not the far right nor the far left.

That may have once been true about winning the independent votes but Romney learned it WASN'T TRUE!

Why Winning The Independent Vote Can Actually Be A Bad Thing

In the final days of the 2012 presidential campaign, Mitt Romney's political director
Rich Beeson was steadfast about his candidate's chances in key swing state Ohio.

"Whoever wins independent voters in Ohio, wins Ohio," Beeson said on "Fox News Sunday,"
two days before the election.

He was, of course, wrong. Romney won self-identified Independents in Ohio by a overwhelming
10 points, according to exit polls, but lost the state to President Barack Obama by 2 points.

A similar trend was seen across much of the country Romney won among Independents by 5 points,
50-45, but lost to Obama, 51-48. The numbers illustrate why winning the Independent vote in
pre-election polls isn't necessarily a telltale sign of victory, as many political strategists
have suggested.

There's no proof in the pudding except that he's all mouth and turns a LOT of people off.

THAT MAY BE(POINT TAKEN) BUT THE NUMBERS CITING HIS OVERWHELMING WIN OF THE INDEPENDENT VOTE DO NOT LIE.
AS ITS HERALDED AS BEING THE ONLY WAY TO WIN --BUT IT DID NOT WIN, DID IT?
So another dem lie the Republicans believed came back to bite them in the ass, Romney lost.
To me that just reinforces why the truth is so important.. -Tyr

Such a terrible loss today for conservatives.

Very likely will go down as a turning point in this nation's history , if it allows obama to seed in another traitor like he has done before.
Mark my words on this ......
And a perfect time to knock off somebody like Scalia, we have as major distractions dem/republican primaries, Korea, China, Syria, Putin all acting up ,
Iran getting nuked up etc as diversionary tactics to any major investigation in his death.
I believe he was murdered by obama command.

They spent billions getting their traitor two terms, got to get the most bang for the buck!
Scalia's arranged departure conveniently gives them that.....:mad::mad::mad::mad:
