Saw this on FB. I love these stories of our WWII heroes:

On Nov. 3, 1921 Charles Dennis Buchinsky, better known by his stage name Charles Bronson was born. He served in the U.S. Army Air Forces from 1943 to 1946. Bronson served as an aircraft gunner in the 760th Flexible Gunnery Training Squadron, with the Bombardment Group, as a B-29 Superfortress crew member based out of Guam. From there he flew 25 combat missions against the Japanese home islands, and earned a Purple Heart for wounds he received during his service. Bronson used his G.I. Bill to study art, and later moved on to acting.Bronson rose to prominence in the 1960s, with roles in The Magnificent Seven, The Great Escape, The Dirty Dozen and Once Upon a Time in the West. His most famous role came as vigilante Paul Kersey in Death Wish and throughout the 1970s and 1980s starred in a number of action roles.

Charles Bronson died on Aug. 20, 2003, at the age of 81.

You just named my one of my top ten favorite actors. Charles Bronson, Kirk Douglas, Robert Mitchum, Clint Walker, Clint Eastwood were my favs in my teen years because they were all tough guys in movies and tough guys in real life. Bronson the toughest one of all IMHO.
And he had great taste in women too-as he married Jill Ireland, I thought she was a stone cold fox! --TYR

John Wayne. I like the rest, but definitely the Duke, And he WAS a tough guy in real life. Football injury killed that career, but he did all his own stunts in the 30s and 40s.

Don't know what cave I've been living in but I didn't know Charles Bronson was dead. Guess that's why he hasn't made any movies lately.

The Duke....

Loved him! He and Robert Mitchum in El Dorado were really good.

Why he did not get an Oscar for "The Shootist" still puzzles me.

I remember seeing a comment from Leonard Nimoy at some point later in his career, about Jill Ireland. If any of you ever watched the original Star Trek series, there is an episode where Leonard, as Mr. Spock, loses his logic for an episode and is having a love affair with planet native Jill Ireland. Nimoy stated that he was unable to enjoy any of the Jill Ireland scenes, because Charles Bronson was standing just off-camera glowering at him for every one. Bad luck, Leonard!

Never liked Jill Ireland and IMO she detracted from Bronson's movies. My favorite show of his was a Twilight Zone Episode with Elizabeth Montgomery.

(STILL liked the Duke better)
