The forecast is for thunder storms the next few days. I managed to catch this lightning strike over the neighbor's house:

I'd think about cloning-out that little vent, though - the mini-tube-chimney thing over the gay-rodge.

I think lightning is one of the most beautiful acts of Nature when captured on film....

Very nice shot Jon - how'd ya do it? :) (e.g. what camera settings did you use etc?)

Thanks.

Step 1: Wait for a thunderstorm
Step 2: put the camera on a tripod
Step 3: focus for infinity
Step 4: set the shutter to open for a fairly long time for each shot (or leave the shutter open if it's dark enough)
Step 5: Hope for lightning

:laugh2:

Holy Mother of God... out freaking standing... one of the best shots of lightening I think I've ever seen in my life.

Jon, my husband asked me to ask you if the sky was really that purple, or was it some sort of photo enhancement. He absolutely loves this shot! (And wants to learn more about photography).

Hard to say really. A lightning bolt lights the sky for an extremely short period of time. It was purple, as is all lightning I've seen. Whether or not it was the specific shade of purple you see on your monitor? I really don't know. :dunno:

That's a great shot! You should print it out and frame it!

Very impressive Jon.......looks like the storm was very cooperative, I don't think you could have asked for better placement unless you would have been next to a lake.:clap::clap:
