Seems there should be a spot for this type of thing....

The pure joy the little girl is showing in #26 made me choke up a little bit.

Both pictures are great, Rev. Shouldn't be needed, but glad there are some good people.

I find topics like this interesting. I am (believe it or not) innately kind. That ain't bragging. It drives me nuts. I think it makes me psycho. On one hand I can be the coldest, most ruthless person you ever ran into. On the other hand, I will stop for an old couple with a broken down car and give them a lift to the auto parts store. And I DO have a commendation for that. I was in uniform, on my way home from work and we had freezing rain. I let the little old lady sit in my truck with the heater while I figured out he'd lost the crown nut on his tie bar. I get called in thinking I'm in trouble again  , and I get did you do this? Yeah. Was on my way home. It floored them. They all thought I was just this Marine prick.

I've seen people risk their lives for others. This was a crown nut. I thought nothing of it. Point is, I don't know what makes me do it. It aggravates the sh*t out of me.

It seems to me that just being decent is what we all should do. If I see someone crying, I'm going to ask them if they are OK or need help.

Yesterday on the way home from work, there was a car on the highway with hood up and doors open, 3 people standing around. I pulled ahead of them, asked if they'd called for help? Yes. Gave them 9 bottles of water from the case I'd just bought and was bringing home. The heat is dangerous and there's no shade and no homes/businesses to walk to.

I'm not stupid, if they'd looked like it might have been anything but a breakdown, I wouldn't have stopped, but the hwy is well traveled and it was light. I just think that when we can help, we should.

I can go on and on about these kind of stories. I'm a Marine. We gave all our chow away in Nairobi. I couldn't sit their and eat in front of those kids. I'd have hated myself for for it. And just to get back in mode, I made everyone else give up their chow too. Not one complaint. We were going to be back aboard ship by the next noon chow. I thought it was okay we missed a couple of meals. Them kids had been missing them for years.

Everything's a matter of perspective. I miss dinner and breakfast but get to go back to a hot meal for lunch? Those little kids went back to scraping.

What you describe is a shame. The criminals have everyone in fear of offering help to people that need it.

I cannot even come close to matching what you and your squad mates did. Dad saw the same thing in 'Nam.

Yet there are those, yes even on this board, that consider military and L.E. as being fully heartless
and lacking compassion. Nothing could be further from the truth. In mode, you folks are sent out
to search and destroy an enemy.

But back into a calmer situations, you have the same generous heart and compassion that so many
others, in their selfishness, can only envy.

My father and grandfather taught me that kindness is every bit as great a mark of being a man as is bravery and toughness.
Never abandon any of the three..
I've been mean, tough, savage, and even ruthlessly bad --yet all THAT was against very wicked people.
I've countless times been kind to others in need..
I could never face myself had I ever abandoned any of the three.
Truth is, I still give money to those with hands out at stop signs and street lights.
Even with me knowing some will be scammers.. Yet having no way to know for sure I do so and let God judge those that scam...
How could I ever not do so--since as a child I went without food often(mostly in winter) and worked hard on the farm...
One must temper their badness by being kind to others or else that badness eats you alive IMHO...-Tyr

Don't sell yourself short. You've probably helped or saved more lives than I ever have. That's your job. We all have/had one. I know I tease, but it's mostly good natured. We only make the news if we're destroying crap. Nobody bothers pointing out the day to day grind of helping others. And I sure as HELL ain't getting on no little cutter to go out in a squall and save some dumbass who didn't check the weather before he went fishing unless you're out of bodies to run your boat. I'd be more hinder than help. I ALWAYS just stayed out of the squids' ways.

Since I was a Cpl one of the first things I would tell my little boots is "It's the squids' ship. Stay out of their way and let them run it. I don't want them on the line telling me how to patrol and/or shoot and they don't need your dumb little asses in their way giving advice on how to run their boat."

Romans 12:18 (NIV)
If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.

Galatians 6:2 (NKJV)
Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.

Galatians 6:9(NKJV)
And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.
