Seems it would hurt the Dems more than Reps:

Michael R. Bloomberg, the former mayor of New York City, confirmed in an interview with The Financial Times that he was actively weighing an independent campaign for president in 2016.

Mr. Bloomberg said he was “looking at all the options” in the election and lamented the state of the race. “I find the level of discourse and discussion distressingly banal and an outrage and an insult to the voters,” Mr. Bloombergtold the paper (http://www.ft.com/intl/cms/s/0/b6d1fc34-ce9f-11e5-831d-09f7778e7377.html#axzz3zc3JMEZU).

The comments are Mr. Bloomberg’s first public expression of interest in the presidential race, but aides acting on his instructions have already drawn up detailed plans (http://www.nytimes.com/2016/01/24/nyregion/bloomberg-sensing-an-opening-revisits-a-potential-white-house-run.html) for a possible campaign.

The former mayor’s deliberations are about to enter a decisive phase: His aides said he intended to make a final call on the presidential race by early March, and planned to take a fresh round of polling after the New Hampshire primary to gauge the viability of a campaign.

The most likely scenario for a Bloomberg run would be the selection of Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont as the Democratic nominee, and Donald J. Trump or Senator Ted Cruz of Texas as the Republican pick.

I think he's jealous that he didn't think of this 'self-funding' thing before Trump. Oligarchs unite! One on the left, no two on the left...

I think it would hurt them, and badly. There has to be a large amount of democrats who know Hellary is dirty and are old enough to know that Commie Sanders is a nutjob that would turn this country into Greece or Venezuela.
But that's just speculation on my part - I honestly have no idea what makes a liberal tick. Trying to logically think through what moves that group of people never seems to work out like it should.

Aint THAT the truth. Just a quick glance at their two potential candidates, makes me wonder if they're all mentally deficient.

The first time I was exposed to that stubborn Democrat streak was with my first Journeyman as an apprentice. Terrific guy, extremely knowledgeable, patient, awesome work ethic AND he was a helicopter pilot in the National Guard - surely a staunch conservative, right? Nope!

He was a very smart, logical guy until a political discussion came up. Guns? More control, even forced disarming. Abortion? Hand me that machete. Dubya? Cue head-spinning and froth.

The interesting part, though, was at the point that a new political topic in conversation was engaged. You could literally see him switch modes and the Stubborn Mule aspect of his personality set in and took over. There would be no logic and he would refuse to entertain any discussion that was against the current liberal consensus and it didn't matter that he was wrong in parroting the DNC talking points that were demonstrably and factually wrong.

It's as baffling today as it was 16 years ago.
