...Earlier this week “a prominent group of researchers,” as Nature magazine (http://www.nature.com/news/global-warming-hiatus-debate-flares-up-again-1.19414?WT.ec_id=NEWS-20160225&spMailingID=50779167&spUserID=MTc2NjY4OTI4MwS2&spJobID=863136582&spReportId=ODYzMTM2NTgyS0) describes them, has contested the previous “no pause” finding, and conclude that there was indeed a pause that the climate models can’t account for very well:

The latest salvo in an ongoing row over global-warming trends claims that warming has indeed slowed down this century.

An apparent slowing in the rise of global temperatures at the beginning of the twenty-first century, which is not explained by climate models, was referred to as a “hiatus” or a “pause” when first observed several years ago. Climate-change sceptics have used this as evidence that global warming has stopped. But in June last year, a study in Science claimed that the hiatus was just an artefact (http://www.nature.com/news/climate-change-hiatus-disappears-with-new-data-1.17700) which vanishes when biases in temperature data are corrected.

Now a prominent group of researchers is countering that claim, arguing in Nature Climate Change that even after correcting these biases the slowdown was real.

“There is this mismatch between what the climate models are producing and what the observations are showing,” says lead author John Fyfe, a climate modeller at the Canadian Centre for Climate Modelling and Analysis in Victoria, British Columbia. “We can’t ignore it.”

Amazingly, one of the authors of the new paper (http://www.nature.com/articles/nclimate2938.epdf?referrer_access_token=EdjjubGeQD PGIx5vL1QW6dRgN0jAjWel9jnR3ZoTv0OqExA1EwYluYLwiaay T9ble9FcNagQ1ss5L1V0KiWd-xzbFQjp8p3e-nUsgU7jNuUykRRWZpgMltUfROWf3xSKeGSSY7TvMiWdaeBCmNz lbQKCodQ3ivWje8eZYAs8Dr1uu8L-i3CHt8f_jYiil5eU0vkTP9FQoSKFHHetLPsMBatVkmispiD6AK 7RHliZN_I%3D&tracking_referrer=www.nature.com) is Michael Mann of hockey stick fame. Maybe we should say the “pause” has been “Mann-splained”?

Here’s Scientific American (http://www.scientificamerican.com/article/did-global-warming-slow-down-in-the-2000s-or-not/) on the story yesterday:

The disagreement may seem esoteric, but it underpins the biggest climate disagreement of the past decades. Climate models, which are virtual representations of our planet, project that temperatures were much higher in the early 2000s than was the case in reality. Scientists have been trying to understand why.

Well, dammit.

Obviously we're barreling toward another Ice Age, then.

I'm going to pack up & move to Panama. And I'm taking my snowmachines with me.

I already noted here earlier my latest rumble with some climatistas in Boulder on Monday, and today I see the news that the temperature “pause” is back on again.

Climatistas? :thumb:

Ah, pen!

I'm going to steal that bit.

The answer is that there is no money to be made, no political power endowed and no big scare if the real data shows something different than what the talking heads proclaim. I always have been skeptical of "scientists" who are at the mercy of government grants to make a living....

It doesn't matter that the predictions were dead wrong, they are still right. Climate change "science" works like that.
don't people get that? sheesh c'mon folk just believe it.

And they're genuinely shocked that we don't buy their BS.

Other than the fact they aren't right? Besides THAT.

Only people I know that are shocked are the ones that believe the BS.
