Basically said my banking info may have been compromised, call XXX-XXXX. I shut down laptop, restarted, still locked.

Thought of calling the number, called tech support instead.

Shut down modem and restart. Worked. Yay! Kinda freaky.

Yikes, that's scary! Maybe you should change passwords right away, to be safe.

No! Do NOT call that number! It's a trick to get your computer infected more, if it isn't already.

Are you running Win 10?

No, all is well. I have a chromebook. Whomever took control and like I said, there was a number. I didn't call. I called tech support for my internet. They also said, "Good girl!" LOL! I didn't think to unplug modem, so that's what I did. Got back control and called bank to let them know that an attempt was made.

Whew. Yeah, Good Girl indeed!

Chromebook is out of my realm. I can't even advise you on how to scan & secure it.

Make note of the pages you were surfing to when it grabbed your browser and blacklist every page associated with it.

Real clear politics-yep.

I don't really understand either, but memory on this is all in 'cloud.' I like it in some ways, others not so much. I liked macbook best, but not shelling out that kind of money anytime soon.

I have something like three years now with Macbook Pro without the first problem.

Kathianne. NO, NO, NO, NO! That warning came from a scam trying to convince you to follow their rules by scaring you. ONLY YOUR BANK has your info. Your bank WILL NOT do anything online to inform you about your account.

RULE OF THUMB. IF YOU....DID NOT CONTACT SOMEONE ONLINE, OR DO NOT KNOW THEM. They are trying to scam you, placing Cookies on your PC if you respond to them, answer their questions, or do as they ask. There are THOUSANDS of ways someone can trick you. They prey on the Elderly LIKE ME, who have little knowledge about how the PC or APPLE product work. I know what they are doing. I worked with COMPUTERS in the navy from the early 80's, and before the INTERNET. So THIS OLD MAN can't be fooled. Don't let them get you.

Never call "those" numbers girlfriend...Trust me...what they want to do is convince you to let them in your machine "for the fix"
