Definitely one of a kind and he had musical talent running out of his pores.
I admired the living hell out of him myself. I was 14 or 15 when I first heard him d
sing.
I wasn't a long haired hippy type (to get the girls) until age 18, and even then the country boy stayed alive and kicking strong in me.
Sad news for me...-Tyr

im surprised they didn't move the DOD up or back one day. dying on your birthday sucks. looks bad on on your tombstone. my step dad died on his and they moved up or back a day so as to reflect a different day.

My father passed away on the morning of his birthday at age 68 years- 0 days...
Big C got him but he far , far out-lasted by several months , the "6 weeks at most" that the docs gave him to live when sending him home from the hospital .
Saddest day in my life.... I was 15 then, -it totally destroyed me for 19 years.
I was 34 years old before I stopped my "rampage in anger" ... when my daughter was born 1988.
Death, the final insult......--Tyr

its really tuff if you were close. my dad and I were not but my mom and I were. still its hard to see them go. my step dad suffered horribly from C. at his funeral the body was awful looking. a bad memory to hang on to. my parents were cremated and much much easier for us to take. we remembered them the way they were/ wife and I will be cremated as well and buried in a national VA cemetery. its hard for anyone to do but we made our arrangements years ago. its all paid for an done.

I started listening to him in 1981 when I was 17. I started working with my dad so he introduced me to Country Western music. My grandpa would point him out on the radio when he would be on. He will be missed.
