I'll go with "Men of Courage" just because they had the balls to sign up. But I'd say they were more like dinner. They had to be the most unluckiest squids EVER.

I'm not overjoyed that this stars Cage, but it's a must-see nonetheless.

Could be worse- could be Clooney.

Dude, I'm a Marine. We are a Department of the US Navy. I couldn't wait to get off the damned boat. Y'all were stuck on that floating target. I might fuck with you and call you squid, but I earned that right. Tell me you didn't fuck with jarheads on your boat? And try to get me to believe it. It's give and take. I hated every damned body on the ship, but when it's time to play the game? We're a damned team. I'll fuck with you later in port somewhere.

And truth be told, I hung out with more squids than any of the Marines. I couldn't stand the arrogance and deprecating attitudes. I never thought I was better than anyone else. I used to hang with the engineer on the fantail and below decks. How do you think I only made Gunny? I pulled my name off the promotion list just to get the fuck out.

But if you think I don't respect you goofy-ass boat drivers as much as anyone else, try to not think.

Crap. I didn't look. I thought it was in history. The sinking of the Indianapolis is legend. The Navy lost a ship. They didn't know it was missing. The survivors were surrounded by sharks until they finally got relieved after IIRC 3 days.

Shit happens. I may be a smartass but I by no means meant to disrespect anyone. I'm water survival qualified. Anyone that can last 3 days has more balls than I do. I was in the drink 12 hours straight to qualify and I was peeing neon green before I was done. Three days? Think I'd rather fight the shark.

However, in MY mind, everyone that serves is a man or woman to me. You stand up and step up, I have no problem. These guys were victims of circumstance.

It may sound trivial to some...but some of these Hollywooder's
should get a proper military haircut if they are to portray
a serviceman or woman.

goes both ways jarhead. Marines were terrified of drowning. sailors wanted no part of sitting in a foxhole getting they're ass's shot off. being a floating target went with the job. im not sure if we had Marines on ships in Nam. they were on the New Jersey for sure. probably on bird farms to.
hey we feed you gave you a rack to sleep in got your ass ashore and provided air and gunfire support. how could you ask for more??:laugh:

Yeah. good luck with THAT. We were clean shaven. No options. You could do NOTHING a recruit could try and identify with. No civilian clothes and no identifying characteristics.

Who was terrified of drowning? Geez, they and drown us in boot camp. They call it culling the herd. Y'all call that slop you dump on our meal trays food? Y'all got some imagination.

And sleep? WTF was THAT? G*damned boat never STFU. Always someone banging around on some dumb ass sh*t. I think y'all did that sh*t on purpose. F*cker.

I'd rather be shot at. At least I know how to answer in kind rather than that psychological torture of being stuck on a boat with a bunch of damned squids floating around in a combat box. You can screw all that noise.

I'll take the fire support though. :)

Finally saw this movie last night. I thought it was well done. I had no idea that McVay was put on trial and found guilty. Seems so wrong. Or that he eventually committed suicide.

Anyway, I'd recommend the movie.

Great Abbey. As you probably heard. Very few Americans even knew it took place at the time. Truth is. Much of our History has either been buried, or simply ignored over the years. McVay, like the Admiral who was in charge of Pearl Harbor on Dec 7, was blamed by the Navy then, when the truth was later released...it was too late for both men.
Even today. Few people know what the Indy's job was back then. Glad you got to see it.
