Obviously, my daughter is not Latino. But she has a friend her age who lives across the street from my sister. The girl just turned 15 and is celebrating her quinceañera tonight.
For those who may not know, quinceañera is a traditional Hispanic celebration of a girl's 15th birthday. It marks a girls transition into womanhood. It used to mark the time when a girl is eligible for marriage. Now it is merely an excuse to a giant party.

This awesome neighbor girl has offered to share her quinceañera with my daughter, who will turn 15 on May 30. So they can both be Queen for a day. I find this to be a most generous and wonderful thing.

I am not going to disclose how much the quinceañera gown cost. My husband almost had a heart attack.
